hey guys, i have a question regarding the crankshaft nut for a ys80, i got my motor back from ys today, but they forgot to give me back my washer and nut, is the washer and nut a specially made for this motor, meaning a ys part or and could i just buy one from a nuts and bolts shop, with the correct metric size and pitch?

You should be able to get one from a nuts and bolts shop. The exact size however I don't remember and don't have a YS anymore. Take your engine in and they should have a guage set that can quickly identify the threads and a set of calipers that can determine the size.

well, i called them today(ys) to let them know that i am 99 percent sure, i sent it with the motor, but since they did work on my ys80 100 percent warranty coverage, and found out my local nuts and bolts shop has been for 15 cents each, after doing the math how can i complain further.

thanks capebob, i just don't have the time to order one at the moment, but i think i will order one on the side, i need/want to see it up this weekend, its been down for 2 months, even though the other 7 helis keeps me busy, but tired of seeing it sitting. how much torque would you suggest on torquing down the crankshaft nut? this is a y80 going on to a freya with a ex blue hub? anyone?...

Before I had the above mentioned tool I removed the back plate, cylinder head, piston and sleeve and from the top, jammed a toothbrush handle between the crank pin and the crankcase. It worked OK. I'm not sure of how tight, but I use thread locker and crank that mother down about as hard as I can using a 6" long 1/4" drive socket a little at a time checking fan run out as I tighten.

That Lock Bob posted is the best. Shannon has one and I can tell you from first hand experience, it works GREAT and does absolutely NO damage to your engine. I think he got his directly from MA. That is one GREAT tool!!

well, my problem first started out to get rid of a slight vib on my freya, then i broke the motor, clutch asssembly apart, the runout is by .0006 but which was way to much, had the impression that my exhub might be bad, so jeff(mrc) sent me another one(thanks jeff), then found a tiny dent on the front bearing, so i sent it back to ys, they replaced front and rear bearing, so i put it back on the vise, put the woodruf key in place, then the slotted washer, then the hub fan assembly, then the conicle flanged washer,i place the dial, which with not prop nut, its under .0001, which is great, then i go to start slowly torque the nut down then it starts to go out of runout with about 10-15lbs of torque the runout is now at .0004-.0005, then it get worse. since the ex fan hub is slotted to fit the woodruff, i can not rotate the hub in different spots(high/low), how do you guys with x-spec do it to get the smallest runout.? i have been at this for a month now on just trying to dial it out. any help from you experts would be so greatly appreciated. thanks, tony..(currently known as deperate and angry tony..)
