Has anyone run the OS 50 Hyper on FAI or 5% nitro fuel? I don't need all the power of 30%, and saving some money would sure be nice :) I assume I will need to remove a head shim, and probably go to a hotter plug.
If anyone has actually done this, please chime in. Specifics on fuel, plug, pipe, etc. would be appreciated.

When I started I ran 5% coolpower. It works ok, nothing to worry about. You should be able to loop and roll easily with this fuel.

Can you elaborate please? I assume it was 5% non-heli fuel, so did you change the amount of oil? do you recall the plug you ran or it's temp?

I think it had enough oil, at least I didn't change anything. I think I used a normal OS8 plug. I ran it in a 30 though, with a 50 you should have a little bit more power.

17-18% synthenic oil is plenty of oil. Fuel is fuel, it does not have to have Heli on the label to be used in a heli engine. You just want to use synthenic oil because it burns a little cleaner than castor/synthenic. Castor/synthenic is the best oil package as for as the engine is concerned. The castor just leaves little brown spots on the muffler and engine when it contacts them and they are hot.
FAI will be fine, you just won't have as much power as you would with nitro. Yes removing the head shim would help with the power some.

Above is the link to the blends on Cool Power fuel. If you notice the FAI fuel has the same oil content and package as the 15% Heli Blend. The 15% Heli labeled and the 15% CP are the exact same fuel. Just one has a Heli label on the jug and the other doesn't.

Thanks for the info guys. After I fly my last couple gallons of 30% I will try out FAI.

Or you could run swamp water. This is 50/50 mix of CP 15% and 30%. Cut the price down, still has good power, smokes less, and looks UGLY (kind of brownish, hence the name).
Of just run 15% fuel. Cheaper, but still good power, less messing with the engine and shims to tune.
