View Full Version : 2 3S Charging gone wrong...

Well to make a long story short, I went to set up a few 3S Lipo's for a balance. I screwed up and put the negative lead to battery 2 and postive to battery 1. Just wasn't paying enough attention I guess. Anyway, BC6-10 let go a plume of smoke and I pulled the cables off right away. I shut the charger down for awhile as I figured out what happened. After I saw what I had done, I assumed the worst.

I wanted to see if the charger would still work after this, or if it was indeed fried. I plugged 1 single battery into another connector board, and started it up. The fan didn't kick in right away, but that seems to be normal for this charger. After a few minutes, it kicked in and it finished charging my 3S pack with no problems.

I went to plug a 6S pack with appropriate board in and give that a try. I think I may have a problem here. Everything else seems to work fine, but when I cycle through the individual Cells to see what the volts are at, Cell 2 and 3 are jumping all over the place. All the other Cells are charging normally.

I think I'd like to play it safe and send it in for repair, or assesment. I don't really want to risk damaging my Lipo's any further, if I haven't allready. I guess my question is, does anyone have expeirence sending there charger in for service?

Evan, what guidance can you give me? Any tips would be appreiciated. Thanks.

The balancer has a set of resistors for each cell. If you damage any one of the resistors, the balancer will be off. Nothing you can do but send it in for repair. Contact the dealer that you purchased it from. If they are a direct Bantam reseller then they can send it in for you. If they are not, email me privately and I'll send it in for you.

Evan

Thanks for the response Evan. I wanted to see if everything was working today still, after the smoke had cleared. The charger will not charge either a 3S or 6S now because the cell resistors that have been damaged have totally failed. The charger can't get a reading for cell #2. I took apart the case to further investigate a little and was pretty bummed out. Here is a pic of what I saw.

Have you seen them this bad before? I would think that they would have to replace the whole board on this one. In you opinion, can it be repaired, or is the cost of repair going to be just as much as a new charger would be? Thanks for your help again.

That would be up to Bantam. Have your dealer make the call.
