Hi all.
I'm kitting up a Stratus for 3D and had some questions:
Does the Stratus fan have governor magnet holes?
Is the kit pretty much plug and play? i.e., do you have to modify parts with dremel, etc.
I'm going to fly YS91/SB16, any fit issues with this combo?
What gyro would you guys use? 611 or 401?
Any *necessary* upgrades?
I have two Evo 90's ... Going to try the stratus ... Thanks for any feedback ...

You have to install the magnets, and drill your own holes. In addition, you have to BALANCE the fan before installation.
Balancing is the only 'modification' necessary.
Go for the 611 gyro..

You will need to dril a hole for the magnet then balance the fan. when installing the fan on the engine you have to dial indicate it. Building the kit was a lot of fun for me. You will not need the dremel. just pay attention to the instructions manual, and take your time building it. YS91/SB16 is fine in my opinion. I am assuming you have the 8.45 gear ratio. I would use the 601 or 611 without a doubt. No upgrades necessary. you will love it. good luck.

Bill,
If you can wait till the Birmingham event. You will see plenty of Stratus's at the event and be able to talk to the pilots flying them first hand. Also Tim Schoonard from Miniature Aircraft will be at the event. You can ask him questions about the Stratus. Tim Schoonard is the owner of Miniature Aircraft.
The Stratus is fairly easy to build. It is one of the best kits that MA has brought to the heli market.
Also Tim has told me he might have a surprise from MA to show at the Bham event.

You will just have to be here to see if there is a surprise.
Last year at this event was the first time the Stratus was shown to the public. No one really knew about the Stratus till Tim showed up with it. All kinds of surprises always happen at the Bham event. <G>

Ohhhhh Dave, I've got the MA bug after seeing them at Clint's B-Day Bash... It's only a few mouse clicks away... But I'll try... to.. resist...
I fly the G3 RX, I've been flying 9252's all around, is it true that the 9255 is the way to go with a PCM2048 setup? Should I just bite the bullet and get 9255's?
Oh, and is there any problems getting to the plugs with a ViperHead (ys91)?

Yes if you buying new servos. I would suggest the 9255's.
Also there is a few of the 3D pilots using the 9451's and running them on a 6 volt regulator and then using a Voltage Step Down for the tail servo to operate on 5.3 volts.
Either the 9255 or 9451 would be the way to go.
I don't know about getting the plugs in the Viperhead on a Stratus. I don't have a Stratus. I am running the OS Cspec motor with OMI Big Bore Carb and Cline. I am just using the stock CSpec PS cylinder head.

As David said most of the guys like the 9451's and they are cheaper

Ok, thanks again guys. Very useful and I appreciate it. I'll start another thread about the ViperHead/Plug/YS91 fitting ...

I have a Stratus ordered and will be fitting it out with these:
4 x 9252
GY401 with 9254
YS91/Hatory937
Receiver most likely R770s
Battery..not decided yet. I am iching of going the Lithium ion route for the 1st time.
The above combo is in my Fury Expert and I am happy with it. So I stick with what works.
But most will go with the GY601/GY611
