View Full Version : I'm getting lost with flybarless...

Anyone want to summarize the flybarless options available for the rex500? I started to look into it and got kind of confused with $700 and $200 options... I think. I am looking to go flybarless to speed up roll rate but also to free some power and loose some weight as I run A123. Least expensive would be nice also.
Thanks

I don't have a lot of experience with flybarless setups in general but I do have a t-rex 500 running the mikado flybarless head adapting parts and the skookum flybarless electronics. It was relatively inexpensive to convert. I didn't weigh it before and after the conversion but it definitely gained a LOT more snap, crackle and pop. It flies much faster, flips and rolls faster; and with heavier blades it autos better. It seems to like the heavier, more tip weighted blades the best; and the flip and roll rate is still much quicker than it had with the flybar and lighter blades. Kinda the best of both worlds. The heavier blades seem to make the piro maneuvers work better too. I'm already ordering parts to convert another one.

I am in the same boat as you but i have made my mind up on the v-stabi v-bar and the v-bar head for the 500 from readyheli i already have a gyro but since the v-bar comes with one built in i can just sell it and the price will be cheaper doing it that way rather than keeping my tail gyro and getting the sk300.

What blades did you find work best for you?

I had a vbar and the mikado conversion kit , i found the vbar way too complicated to even get a basic working setup, I sold it and got myself the sk360 . once setup it flys really well with the default settings. i now have 3 sk360

I'm still looking for the best blade, I've tried 4 or 5 different kinds. So far the heaviest (by a gram or two) AND the one having the outermost spanwise CG is the align 425F blades, but they're not very stiff and make a lot of noise in the air. I haven't tried the 425D blades yet, I hear they may be stiffer. I'm even considering trying to add some weight to a set or two. I'm hoping Vic or align or someone comes out with some heavier, more tip weighted blades for the 500. If anyone knows of any let us know.

The only CF blades I've used on the 500 are the original align 425's that came out with the kit. I just looked online and now see those, the D's and the F's. Anyone know what the difference is between the 3 (other than cosmetically)?
Thanks

I have the SK360 flybarless gyro and highly recommend it. Easy to setup and flies nice
I have original white Align Carbon blades on the heli and I am happy with them.
