Hi all

Today i did crash my nice fury Tempest 3D :bomb:

The volt measurer did get some exes fuel or Water and the model lost control!!!

well it costs me about 400 :( Dollars to repair! But the nice canopy from zooms is gone

Heck rotor is smashed in small pieces!

It was not bad! It happened in a Hover (2M high) and suddenly i lost control because the volt measurer failed!

What is a volt measurer? How would it cause a crash?

something like that http://www.ronlund.com/images/voltmagic.jpg

But much cheaper! Water (snow) did get on it so the system did get a shortcut!!

Don't know why you would put something like that in the system. Nothing beats a good voltmeter with a 1 amp load and check the batteries before each flight.

Sorry to hear about your crash.

I don't guess it was much cheaper now that it has cost you hundreds of dollars in parts.

Sorry to see your crash. That sucks.

I know exactly how you feel. I lost an Extreme yesterday too. I lost tail control first but must have also pitched another link because just losing the tail control shouldn't have made it crash. It laid over and I couldn't get her to level out. Just basically stood there and watched her go in. I feel your pain.

Yeah it is not a nice feeling :( I just stood there as well and had to watch how my beautiful fury hits the ground.

Well but the costs are not much!! ONLY 259 DOLLARS (with shipment 325 Dollars)

We have got 40 cm snow and so my fury did not had a hard landing!!!

Thanks for standing next to me and helping me out!

My first crash with a heli and i started flying about 2 years ago!

For all those who never crashed a heli out there! WATCH OUT!! Its a really bad feeling!

Glad to hear it isn't that expensive.

My Parts are on the way. Should be next week here.

I will for sure never install a cheap Voltmeter again!! Especially not placing it where water or snow gets on it.

What kind of servos? Did the gears make it??

s9251 and 3 S9252

Not 1 of the gears made it. But its only 8 dollars for a gear set.

If you can drop the cash id say yank that crap out of there and put duralites in that baby. No more volt magic make your heli crash pos things in there anymore, plus you can fly 10 flights and have the same voltage/servo speed always.

Get that baby fixed and keep it in the air and out of the SNOW and WATER.

Be sure to check your bearings in the machine.... specifically mainshaft bearings and grip bearings.

YEah i am using a cheap 1800mih battery! 3 flights and the battery looses power!! But why duralites? They are expensive and i am sure out there are much cheaper lithium batteries for the same quality!! Well i will for sure never install a voltmeter like that again!!

TODAY MY VBLADES AND PADDLES ARRIVED!!

maybe my parts will arrive tomorrow and i can smack my tempest on Sunday if there is no problem!!

Try the fromeco relions. The 2400 would give you like 5 flights I bet you without recharging. Just get a regulator from MPI i think it is. Mac Hodges at Hodges Hobbies has some regulators that Matt Botos use, I would get one of those, a 5.4v one. You got a charger to charge em with? You'll need a load tester. Either the Fromeco 8Ball or one from Duralite.

I may be wrong. But it looks like a Duralite Regulator in the picture.

Unless MPI has changed their regulators. They are not too good of handling the load that all digital servos placed on them. I know more than a couple of pilots that have had the MPI regulators shut down when using all digitals. Shut down means there is no power to the system

Ok so hes changed what he uses. Tell ya what, im selling a 5.1v duralite regulator right now. :) Buy some Batteries and buy my regulator. :)

lek3D,
Get a Radio South, Duralite or Fromeco regulator. They are quality regulators that work and are reliable.

I was using the MPI regulator for a while but since I switched to a 6 volt setup, I have changed over to Duralite. Harkey is right, when put under a load, the voltage will drop slightly. The 5.4 volt regulator seems to hold a load much better than the 6 volt regulator. Under a 2 amp load, the MPI 6.0 volt regulator would drop down to 5.5 volts. The 5.4 volt regulator under 2amp load will drop down to about 5.2. I was okay with the 5.4 volt version dropping to 5.2 but I am NOT okay with a 6 volt version dropping to 5.5 volts under load.
I ran the same tests with a duralite 6v regulator... under a continous 2amp load, the Duralite regulator will hold steady at 6 volts.
MPI is not a bad regulator, I never had any failures.... But, if I am going to run a 6 volt setup by gosh I want a continuos 6 volts... Not 5.5!

Thanks,

Matt

FYI, There is another source for Li-Ion batteries that we run which you can get from Troy Built Models in Sarasota, FL. They run these in giant scale planes as well as heli's. I've been running 3 different packs with Dura regs. I'm running 4700mah packs. Gene has higher capacity packs as well. Here is the link.
