How would you guys say this compares to the T-Rex 600? Same general class?

The 600E is around 1.5-2lbs heavier running the same power system, if i had to guess..... :)

Well, the Outrage 550 is a .30 size heli in nitro terms. An Align 600 is a .50 size heli in nitro terms. The differences between the two (.30/550 and .50/600) includes blade size (550mm and 600mm), tail boom length (the .50/600 is a little longer to handle the longer blades) and gearing/power system. The stock TRex 600 is a 6S setup, the stock Outrage 550 is a 6S setup. However, you can get by with a 6S setup on the TRex, a lot of people are looking for/at 8S and up.

Here is a shot of a Logo500 which is the same class and size of the O550 next to a Trex 600. At first glance they can look the same size but next to each other the 600 has a longer tail and larger blades.

IMO the 550-class (30-size) helis are much better suited to a 6S power train than the larger 600-class (50-size). The significantly lower weight and shorter blades place much lower loads on the system which means that 6S lipos don't generally get worn out in 30 to 50 cycles like they do on the 600 helis.
The 550 can typically be flown on smaller capacity packs for similar performance and endurance (say 6s 3300 compared to 6s 5000 on a 600) which means batteries are significantly cheaper as well.
Presence and visibility in the air is almost the same so IMO a 550 gives you almost all the benefits of a 600 with fewer negative aspects.

ahh . well I was looking at the lb of difference and thinking of a 600 as I'm always flying in a bit of wind 9-15 mph ? I heard the the Outrage 550 won't fly well with 3300 because it's to light and would throw of CG a lot, but that's cool longer flight times and the packs should be stressed even less :)

I have a trex 600 on 6S and I have seen trex 600's on 8S fly...Let's say we have an 8S 600 and an outrage 550 on 6S flown by the same caliber of pilots side by side, from what I have seen during events, I can confidently say that an outrage 550 on 6S with a scorpion 4020-1390 will send any trex 600 on 8S or 6S packing. Then again a trex 700 electric conversion with a scorpion 4025 on 10 or 12 S will send any heli out there packing.

Or my logo 700 that weighs 3.8KG RTF with lipo and 690MM rotors could do the trick! LOL
Sorry could not resist.
I would go the 550! Or logo 500, its awesome

Trex 700 vids I have seen are using the 4035- . I have the 4025-740 in my 10s 620 Raptor and I really like it.It seems like it would be marginal in a heli swinging blades over 650mm but maybe not. It is pretty strong. My buddy has the 4035 in his Logo 600 flybarless . He says it has plenty of power:smokin:

Wow.:noteworthy
and I thought my 4.6lb (2.1kg) rtf G550 was kinda cool.
Flybarless?

Hey helicraze & kgfly!
Question... I don't know about kgfly but since I'm considering a Logo 500, I'd like to know if you plan to get an Outrage 550? As you know, the Logo 500 is high on my list of new helis for 2009
The Outrage 550 is probably second in the running.
If anyone else has flown a Logo 500 and are planning to get the Outrage 550 I'd like to hear from you too.
Thanks guys!!!

Hi Dave,
I am not sure if your question was directed at me. I recently sold my Hurricane550 and am in the process of getting a Protos (500-class, 420-430mm mains) as my new toy. I am not in the market for any other helis at the moment.
I previously flew a Logo10 (550-class) which was a nice heli but the parts were crazy expensive and hard to get Down Under.
If I was based in the US like you, where all things are readily available, often from multiple sources, and I wanted a 500mm-bladed heli I would consider the following:
* Great budget heli that can be upgraded for good 3D = Hurricane550
* High quality, high performance, high price = Logo500
* New an interesting, high performance at a better price = Outrage550
The Outrage is more of a niche item and as yet untested by the user community, but based on the enthusiasm around their smaller heli I would say it is a strong contender if you want a high performance but affordable heli in that class.

Dave I'm in the same boat as you as I was considering a Logo 500 and the Outrage 550. I guess for me it's going to be the cost of replacement parts and all. Although I really do like the sound of the herringbone main gear on the Logo 500.

kgfly,
You will LOVE the Protos. I have 2 friends with them and I've flown one. I think it's the lightest heli out there (in its class). I was going to get one until I decided my E550 was too heavy. Hence, my decision to go big again.
To you and jujiro,
My list right now is:
1) Logo 500 (with or without V-Bar)
2) Outrage 550 (pending reviews)
3) JR Vibe 50
I'm really an electric kind of guy though (and I have 3 6s 5300 packs to use) so I'm leaning that way. Like jujiro, parts cost is a consideration too but if they fly great, I'll crash less ;)

Mikado parts are not expensive, only the canopy (upto $105AU) and main shaft hardened ($30) are expensive.
Its easy to get parts in aus, perthrc have lots of stock. Main frames only $25 per side, thats cheaper than align CF frame set!
The kit cost may be slightly higher but you will fly hundreds of flights with nothing wearing out unlike many other helis.

Outrage 550 parts cost are now on outragerc.com and helidirect.com. The parts are typically $1-2 cheaper than the T500 parts, so the 550 vs 600 debate is over :)

Is there more than one psrts supplier in Australia for Mikado parts and kits?

sweet. I guess the only ting now is to see how well it holds up after a crash. If that looks good then the Outrage 550 is definitly on my next heli to get list. .. :) Although it will have to wait till next year since I just jumped on a T-rex 250 for the winter lol.

I had a Logo 600 and really liked how it flew, but the 10s lipo packs are to much money for my budget. After losing a couple of them in crashes I had enough! Crashes costing as much as $700.... Yes you read that right, I could no longer justify owning it. Every time I flew I got where I was to scared to try anything new because of the consequences. It lost it's fun for me. Before anyone says it, we aren't supposed to crash our helis, but fly them. Accidents do happen, and when they do, I don't want to have to wait 3 months to gather enough money to fly again.
I can get Outrage 6s 5000 Lipos for $279 vs $500+ for the Logo 600. I even got lucky and picked up a Desire Power 6s 5000 packs brand new for $210! I will be buying a Outrage 6s 5000 pack too. Also, I need more than one charger and buying a good 6s charger is much cheaper than a 10s.
After owning a G5 and putting the hurt on it nearly everyday, I have high expectations for the Outrage 550. Charley and the Team are committed to designing a top quality product that will fly the pants off anything in it's class. Bottom line... you guys that have waited on the Outrage 550 to be released will not be disappointed, your about to have something really special in your heli fleet.

No but thats not a worry, perthrc is very good and you can always get from the states.

I found the Logo10 parts to be very expensive compared to Hurricane 550. Mainshaft was about 8 times more, flybar 8 times more, gears 4 times more, frames double etc. etc. It sounds like the O550 parts will be very affordable which is a good thing IMO.

I have seen a mishap involving the outrage 550 at the jax event, and I like how they designed parts that are replaceable(especially in the head). The main blade grip control arms are replaceable, instead of buying a whole set of aluminum grips, just get a set of control arms., The main gear is easily replaced. so is the main shaft. The mainframe did not suffer any damage as I saw. (heli crashed inverted, FFF, bottom part of an outside loop which is a pretty major impact I think). Inmy opinion, the outrage 550 is more durable than any align heli during a crash. (based on experience-I own 2 trex 600's and 2 450's).
