When did Futaba start selling the 14mz with the laydown type case? I like that one better than the stand up unit. how can I register my mz if I can't find the card?

The new cases just started about 1-2 months ago.
I bought a 14mz and my buddy bought one about 2 weeks later. His had the new style case.
I might go buy the new case as it's just like the 9Z case. I hate stuffing the foam in the back of the TX to get it to sit still. Although the stand up case has a lot of room for all the extra batteries and assorted crap that I carry around.

why not just get a Stormcase or Pelican and cut as desired?

That's why I have a field box. I hardly put anything in my 14mz case, save the 14mz. Getting old carrying that luggage around. Where is this new case at?

Not only does the 14mz not sit right in the stand up case, it seems like it doesn' fit right either.

I just stick my TX in the stand up case with the sticks toward the back and fill the other side with all my field crap. No foam. Slam the lid and don't look back. It has been to a lot of events and slamed around the trunk of my car quite a lot with no issues.... now the case is a bit beat up, but that is to be expected.
I only use the included foam if I send the TX back for service and I expect it to get dropped 20 feet off a belt loader by a guy wearing brown

Eric, Doesn't the tx move around? I'll try and do it with out the foam.

I just tried the method that Eric described. It works very good. I placed the tx in the case with no small foams and placed te tx in the middle. I shook the case pretty hard and couldn't detect any movement.

I think the key is turning around the TX so the handle is pushed into the foam. With the sticks toward the back it seems to work well and in no hassle. The foam is a pain.
No problems with that technique so far. I am pretty hard on my cases and my tx case gets bounced around a lot. The only time I would not recommend it is when shipping as the gorillas at UPS play dodge ball with packages or something form the looks of the boxes I receive.
Easier is better :)
I do like the look of the Pelican cases though. Very strong. I just like to put all of my field crap in my TX box so I know where it all is. I go to the flight line with my starter, heli, and TX case.

Personally I prefer the double-case, but for those that have been asking about single-case availability, here's info posted by Bill Baxter on the FFC:
Date: 4/13/2006
This just became available, and was put into our main system.
Stock number and suggested retail price:
FUTP1018 14MZ SINGLE METAL RADIO CASE $109.99
These parts can be ordered through any hobby retailer who sells Futaba systems and accessories.
They are ordered, and deliveries would be expected in late May to early June.

$110 for the new case. YIKES!!
This is why I use a Pelican 1450 case for everythng I own. $65 and it protects like nothing else out there.
