I and several others are putting together a turbine event here in the US. We are going to schedule it in the central part of the country so it will be fair to everyone. It will highlight all areas of the tubines to include scale as well as precision stle flying and of course 3d flying with a turbine. Many have sated they are ready to show there stuff so now they will have a chance to kick them loose, and show there stuff. All turbines will be welcome, it will be agreat chance for all to get together and intermingle. I will anounce the dates and info as soon as we have it together. It's time for a showdown!!

will someone clarify a point for me, does the AMA rules state the blades must be not turning when the engine is at idle?

no offence intended here, but there seemed like there was nothing more dangerous than usual with the blades turning anyway :?

Correct

Don't know why, I accept it. Not an issue to me. I LIKE not haveing my blades move at an idle. It is tough to reach out and stop an 1800 mm disc with your hand.

what I mean is will this 500 in the video be allowed to fly at an AMA event, because the blades rotate on start up

Additionally, you dont have to stop blades with your hand if you shut down :!:

That 500 has a clutch, and the blades will stop when the motor is at idle. In the vid he was spooling up the motor slowly which is why the blades were moving. If you wait long enough with the motor at idle again the blades will eventualy come to a stop.

The guy who built this one was the same guy who built my turbine B-230 and the mechanics and turbine were the same.

except the blades turned as soon as the engine was lit

Gents -

This 500 is NEW and the second one I have owned - It appears that at Kero take over and initial idle the RPM range jumps up enough to slowly spin the blades and then they come to rest in a few seconds unlsess of course you begin the spool up after pilot control is returned which I do.

Once you land and return to idle the blades also spool down nicely to a stop which I USUALLY let happen and idle the turbine before shutdown.

UPDATE:

Talking with Vario DE I was told that after some initial break-in the mechanics will meet generally accepted practice of blades motionless until flight idle is started.
