Hanyone else had the same problem? I do not know what caused this. Does not look like a lean engine since the parts look OK. I sent the engine to OS today, it has less than a year. The color in the picture is wrong, it does look better than that. I hope they will replace under warranty. I found this WEB site with the exact same issue. http://shoestringbudgetrc.blogspot.com/2008/05/yet-another-pistonring-set.html

Yeah, it looks like metal fatigue to me, although I suppose getting the engine too hot could soften the aluminum and cause it to chip off like that. I think there's a good chance OS will cover it under warranty.

Mine did the same, about 2 months old in all aswell.
Did you have any problems with it running quite hot just before however rich it ran?
Mine looked exactly the same. No burnt markings on the cylinder, just broken off at the side.

Yes it did run hot no matter what I did. This is, according to a friend, because there was ignition in the bottom part as well as the top.

I would say it looks like fatigue as well as some kind of ignition issues. That pitting on the face looks like it is caused by misfiring or something. That part doesn't look like fatigue.

The pitting is from metal parts getting squeezed between the cylinder and the cylinder head. My head as the same marks.

Seems identical to mine.
Let me know how you get on with OS with it - mines about 6 months old now and sitting in a box - might try sending it back if you have any luck.

I had the same problem twice on my Hyper 50. Although I couldn't find the cause of the problem , I believe that the problem is caused by the over-heating of the enigne while I am flying.

Detonation can cause:

A broken ring land.
Piston top pitting (abrasion).
Overheating (skuffed piston skirt).

How much is the fee?

The cost of a new engine plus $20? :)

Shipping was 24$, I am in Canada. I think with all the parts they are replacing I got a super deal. At Heliproz they total 164$ and I paid 179 for the new engine
