View Full Version : 3200Mah 15C packs...is this enough?

I see that there are some 15C 3200mah packs for 75.00 each (electrifly)

Is this enough of a C rating for a stock 550? (61T rear main, 850kv motor, 19T OWB, 42T front main and 14T pinion)

Thanks!

i would think for hovering around, or very light sport flying, ya. for that price, you can't go wrong. i use a 10c 4000 mAh true rc lipo on my raptor E550, and have never had a problem. 7 minutes, and i put back way less than 80%.

Thank you for the response. It will be for hovering and eventually some forward flight. No 3d in my near future with this heli. :)

Dang it...just saw that these are the ones that are 9" long...

That would probably be too large.

15c 3200 capable of 48A continuous.
25c 3200 capable of 80A continuous.

Compare that to a 25c 2200 which is capable of 55A continuous. and has issues with anything more than 3 minutes of hovering.

yeah think you would stitch yourself up getting anything under 20c 3200

It's the battery size I am concerned with... while a good price, the 9" long battery may not fit...

Get the Zippy 3300 20-30C from HobbyCity.com. $40 each. Cheap and good. $25 shipping to the US though so its really $109 for 2 shipped. Still a good deal.

I won't buy any packs again that are less than 3300 25C 6S for these heli's. Even if i wasn't flying them hard, i still would get at least that as a minimum. Everything else i've tried so far hasn't held up as well long term after daily torture.. but the 3300's and up have been decent.
We all have different needs and uses for our heli setups, but my minimum for pack now is 3300 25C 6S.. and I'll be going up to 3700 and 4200mAh range next purchase for sure.., even if it means a canopy mod or a larger replacement canopy (or running them without the canopies).

+1 on the Zippy's

I have two sets and JB has two Sets and so far they are very good value for money.

Off set the shipping costs by ordering more than 1 pair and get some of their cheap carbon blades as well!!

Sorry but I Dont 100% agree with you here.

Plenty of us fly 3300 Zippys that are both cheap and 20C not 25C and they work just perfect.

I am not a believer in 'its expensive so it must be good"

There is usually a correlation between cost and quality but its not always the case and i believe that the Zippy batteries although not really really high performance are very very good value for money and perfectly fine for most Pilots.

Just ask around this forum

Love my 3300 zippy's.....perform as good or better than my Polyquest that cost almost 3 times as much. The Zippys are underated and put out more power and mah's than they say itwill.....always takes a good balance charge.....

Best buy for the $$$$ I have found...

+1 on that. even after 60 plus flights and a couple that took (oops) about 98% out of them because i forgot to set the damn timer and my internal clock is nonexistent, they still balance and fly damn good

And that's in the Rain too !!....

Bobbybe must have had them for 5 years to get 60 flights in SEA....area....:badair:

Never said Zippys are no good , nor any specific make of lipo, I said 15C is not good enough -for a heli the size of the Hurri.- ( got one in our hanger ) That was after all what the initial question was . Still would prefer at least 25C but it also depends on flying style , etc

Tottaly agree with you.....even 18c won't hack it.....

I think the reason Zippys do so good is they are underated....

25c and up is the best.....also you can get 66amps out of a 20c 3300 pack and 62 1/2 amps out of a 25c 2500 pack...so they perform about the same.....

I run an eagletree on my Z30 and usually run in the 30 amp range with normal spikes to 50 -60 amps max....

a15c 2500 packs only puts out 37.5 amps....and 18c is 49.5

What i wasn't agreeing with you on was the statement about needing 25C minimum batteries

My point was that plenty of us use 20C with very good results.

I do agree with you that 15C is not good enough.

wasn't meant to ruffle the feathers in any way just didn't agree entirely with your comment.

Cheers

No feathers ruffled at all , Ben . I still believe 25C is better , though

But with cheap buying I mean "cheap" , not bargain priced - again no reflection on any specific brand - another local saying: " buying cheap , is buying expensive ! "

We once tried 6S2P 2200 . i.e 4400 MAH on 25C
Beautiful , till we fitted the Rotorworx frame , these (Outage) lipos does'nt fit in a pair . so flew them one at a time and , boy , did they get hot after 4 mins of flight ,
