been loooking at generators to keep rx battery charged in flight!!

A this site:

I am paranoid about battery failing in flight!!
Looks good to me. anyone used this?
any opinions?

anyone know what rpm output of wren g/box is when fitted to predator, i assume it is same as 90 size engine!!!!!
This system works 3000 to 18000 rpm.
I think this would work on turbine

Andy, if you want my opinion, you can`t beat a good, reliable battery that is frequently checked for good connections. If you fit an alternator, beware of other dangers, such as it comming loose and jamming the transmission, or radiating interference. If you are that paranoid then I suggest you fit a second battery with an automatic change over switch, you can get these from vario. Keep it simple and it`s reliable. :)

the rpm of the gearbox op shaft is approx between 12,000 and 16,000 rpm, like you said, similar to that of a nitro.

Hmm, good point.
Still tempted though. Im sure with a little attention to detail the chance of it comming loose are slim.

Thanks for the advice :)

cj.
do you know any more about these change over switches, where i can get one?

I use four cell packs and have only seen change over switches that use 6V, not 4.8.

Also how much? :D

I am using 2 lipo packs, each 2s 2000mAh and connected in parrallel to a scott gray reactor. This powers the servos at 5.6v and the gyro at 5.2 volts. The servos are operating near thier best performance (all stats are given running the servois at 6v) but the gyro is getting a safe voltage (the fast digi servos with the 401 and the 601 wont last long on more than 5.2volts). Using two packs in parrallel gives me 4000mAh total, however if one pack fails in flight the other pack will continue to power the system. There is no system that is totally safe, however like chopper jockey says keep it simple and there is less to go wrong, change over switches, generators etc all add to the number of ways the system can fail. The simplest is a nicad battery at 4.8volts, however they dont last as long as a lipo pack, but with a lipo pack you need the regulator. So for me the simplest for the best performance is a lipo with the CG reactor.

Andy, take a look at this

http://gb.vario-helicopter.biz/shop/product_info.php?products_id=33760

with this you must remember to charge both the batteries seperately

Looks perfect for what i need.
Do you use them? I take it you recomend them?

Do you have to use two batts of same capacity?

Thanks for your help :D

I don`t use them personally, I prefere to use just the one good pack, to keep it simple. But if I was worried like you might be, then this is worth thinking about. I would suggest two batteries of the same capacity, otherwise one would run down before the other and show a difference, which you might percieve as a problem.

Hey CJ

I assume these switches will also work with Nimh batts and not just Nicad
