Ok, one gallon through my Raptor w/ OS50. Some things I've noticed and I'm not sure if they are normal.

1) (quite possibly the most important) headspeed is wicked fast. We tach'd it at 1900+ at the field in normal mode. I've since brought the throttle curve down (75% at full stick on normal) and adjust my travel rates. Not easy since I'm still learning my 14mz. Originally my pitch curve was off, but I got that fixed.

2) When the header tank get's to about 50%, the engine leans out and spins up. Shouldn't it be burning through the header tank and then leaning out? And is this normal?

Overall, I like the Raptor. Definitely a smooth flyer. No crashes, so I guess my learning is progressing at the appropriate rate.

to answer in your question sin order;
1) You need to fine tune your throttle curves differently than what is stated in the book, I base initial setups on the Rappy to net 40% throttle at mid-stick, 0 Low, and 100% high and adjust to get the headspeed I want at mid-stick in all flight modes. Leaving it at 100% high gives you the power if you need to bail out of anything, 75% may bog the head and complete your crash sequence. ( Assuming you are about to crash anyway and NEED to bail out...)
*edit* I adjust the curve DOWN to 40% throttle barrel opening and adjust up/down as required...)

2) This is a fairly normal phenomenon, as the fuel level atttains the same elevation as the needle inlet on the carburetor, there is no more gravity assist to keep it running quite the same, You can raise the header tank 1/4" or so, Richen the engine a couple clicks, or use it as a timer of sorts, when you hear it begin to go lean, land quickly..

You are seeing normal teething pains, nothing unusual here. You may find that a governer will keep your headspeed in check without having to rely on your programming skills, but there is absolutely no replacement for good throttle curves.
(Not to mention it will probably save a motor in the event the governer fails)

Good to know I'm on the right track and not seeing or doing anything out of the ordinary. Thanks Wayne.

What Wayne is saying is correct.

It was hard to tell by your description but if the head speeds up and the engine quits at mid way through the header tank it is possible that the fuel line inside the header tank is split or the plastic fitting that the fuel tubing attaches to is cracked. If this is a new helicopter your tubing should be o.k. but I have seen those plastic fittings crack and suck air instead of fuel.

Just something to think about if your problem fits the description I just gave.

Have fun !!!!!!

If you didn't replace the clunk lines when you built it with Aerotrend medium or hayes clunk lines take the opportunity to do so now to save you the aggrivation associated with the cheap junk they ship with the kit.
