AWESOME guys... Next heli on the video grill is the MSH Protos 500 heli.

I have had this in my shop for a month and DANG it's been beating on me to get started!
Big thanks to Corrado owner of MSH for supplying everything in the vid to get this build going! Oh and Corrado, sorry for the month delay!

OK first step. So I decided that not knowing how accessible the servo arms are when the servos are mounted in the frames, I decided to put a step up front of step 1. Servo setup FIRST and then servo install per the manual. It turns out that you could do this later which I will show in full. This is Step 1A Servo Setup with the Radio...

If your servo wires are too long you can shorten them easily but WHAT IF your wires are too short? Use an extension or extend the wires MY WAY. Folks this is NOT for the unskilled and YES you violate your warrenty! But this is how I do it:

Flight Eval. This was my 3rd flight. Still taking it easy as I was still playing with the gyro settings and tail. I finally got it dialed in on the 4th flight. Gain is 20 on the gear channel travel adjust. In this video I had the gain a touch too low.

It's a "425" size, since it uses 425mm blades. ;) But yes, in Align-speak, it's a "500".
(Curse Align for saddling us with meaningless naming conventions!)

Can't wait to see the rest of the vids, Bob! I think you're gonna dig the Protos. :thumbup:

It would be really great if you could also compare along the way and at the end as far as flight is concerned the Protos with the TRex 500 from various aspects.

Both for beginners and experienced flyers.

Technical point - if you can name the files with a number prefix that would show the order of the movies it would be convinient for people who download the whole series.

You have done that already in one of the heli builds and it proved to be a good approach.

Actually Align and many other manufacturers size their heli by the motor.
Eg. Trex 500 = 500L motor
Trex 600 = 600L motor etc. etc.

Which is a "standard" they pulled straight out of thin air. The old Graupner brushed motor classes don't even come close to the sizes of those motors. The original trex 450 was indeed a "450" class brushless motor at the time. However the 500 and 600 sized motors are totally off.

Great to see you've a look at this heli! I think it has some nice features and the right weight for 425mm size blades... others are way too heavy. Anyway, can't wait to to hear your conclusion! And once more thanks for those videos and greetings @ Bob!

I'd also like to see a comparison against the Atom 500. Right now, the Atom is the top pick for my next heli, but I could be convinced otherwise.

I had a hard time choosing between the Atom and the Protos, I chose the Atom because I heard the Protos was kinda fragile. After seeing the Protos in person last weekend I think I'm gonna get one! Dont get me wrong, there are several things I personally liked better on the Atom, but there are things I liked better on the Protos as well. I think the Protos looks better but I think the Atom is built stronger. So I think I'm just gonna have to get both! :YeaBaby:

I have the same conundrum. However, I only want one 500 size in my fleet (mainly for traveling), so I'll have to pick one.

nice vids Bob!
One little advice: itīs better to finally fit the (lower)servoframe to the mainframe with the main shaft inserted into the 3 bearings. Otherwise there can be a misalignment of the mainshaft and its running too stiff.

Bob, will you be doing Fireup's static fix on this one?

I don't even think static is an issue if you use the new pinions. The newest pinions are conductive and as you know their is only 1 continuous belt in the gear train. In my opinion any static charge would be stripped by the motor/motor mount. I did NO static mods to my airframe (one of the newest protos kits) and never had a static problem.

The original pinions had an anodized coating and were not conductive.
