Thanks Jeff,
I checked Cyber the other day and some of the Japanese shops and they didn't have it.
$345 seems like a reasonable price. Just don't think I would want to buy it outside the US right now and deal with the hassle of warranty.
Taking a guess, the price here in the USA will probably be about $400.

I'm curious if you will be able to take the SZ that's available now and retro fit it with the pump system. I've got 3 that I would want to convert to the OS pump system.

Gary,
Not sure if they will offer a conversion kit. I would think it would be expensive. As the carb is different on the pumped version than it is on the current SZ.
The pump conversion for the CSpec was about $200.

I guess I'll just send them to James then, at least I know that works.

I agree, for $85 James will sprinkle his pixie dust on them and make them great.

So with this pumped/regulated version is the OMI mod needed?

Jeff,
Gary was referring to the current SZ's he has. He said he would send them for Cline upgrade at OMI. Rather than getting a pump/regulator conversion kit from OS that will probably be expensive.
There really is no OMI mode for the OS pumped/regulator version that I know.

Also what pipe are people running? I'm considering switching to this engine in my Fury. What gear ratio would work? And do I have to change the pinion on the clutch bell?
Thanks,
Jeff

The SZ's with pump and regulator that I have seen in use. I believe most of them were using Hatori mufflers. SB-17 or SB18. As for gear ratios I believe they were right at 7.91 to 8.18 range.
If you have an 11 tooth pinion on the clutch bell already. All you need is a 90 tooth main gear for 8.18 ratio. The pinion just screws into the clutch bell. It is not difficult to change.

After talking to James at Oneal just a few minutes ago, I'll be sticking with his set up. Quite frankly, I don't trust OS to put the testing in to get it worked out on the first time around. James said he just talked to someone that got hold of a new SZ with the new pump system and it has even a different carb than the 60M. It came from Hong Kong so when the engines will be available here is anyone's guess.

Gary,
I have known since the SZ came out with the 60M-C carb. That the carb on the pumped version would be different than the 60M-C. I thought James knew that also since the person that told me that information would have told him also.
Reading back thru threads about the SZH motor, it is mentioned a few times the pumped/regulator version would have a different carb than the standard muffler pressure version.

Oh, I'm sure James has known that for some time, I just spoke to him about it today. Something else interesting James said was that in the near future, OS would not have a muffler pressure motor for helis except maybe the 37. After my experience with the foam on the fuel magnet on my SZ that is muffler pressure, I think that is a great idea. Muffler pressure is a bad thing. The gasses and heat in the fuel just tore that foam apart and when it did, it filled the filter and basically acted like a lean run when it did. The ring was welded to the sleeve.

Been there, done that. I found that out with the original foam on the fuel magnet. One of the reasons James started looking for a different foam. The new foam ( Grey) is great compared to the old stuff ( white) when using muffler pressure.

The carb on the new pumped/regulated SZ looks like it is the 60M-P.
The spraybar and needle inlet are more open than the 60M-C. The cateye is also different. The regulator mounts via a fitting to the hi speed needle holder.

is that the cost of modifying the carb that comes with the standard SZ david ?

Yes
All OMI does to the 60M-C carb that comes on the non pumped SZ. Is add the Cline and do some work on the needle openings. At this time he needs a spray bar from a 60K to change out the spray bars I believe along with the carb. Would have to call James and ask him if that is still needed.

Its actually the cateye in the mixture control valve that gets changed out. The 60M-C cateye has a more aggresive opening. This was done to make it's midrange work when using muffler pressure only. As you recall - the original 60K carburetor on the gold headed Cspec didnt work well because of a lean midrange. (then along came clines and pumps)
When using the Cline or a pump system, that aggresive cateye is no longer needed, and actually becomes a liability. This is why James now swaps back to the narrower and less open 60K cateye when doing the mod to the 60M-C.

OK OK, just so I'm clear on all this mod stuff. If I get an OS with pump already installed and out of the box, does it need to be modified? If I do need to modify it how much does it cost?
Also in a Fury extreme what gear ratio and muffler would be good?
Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,
If you buy the new SZ with the new OS pump system, you shouldn't have to do anything else to it. There just aren't enough in use yet to really know how they perform. If you have the SZ that's available right now, you can send it to OMI and get the cline and carb mods done and have a great engine.
In my Extreme's I like the 8:18 with the Hatori Muffler set up.

Thanks Gary.
So many options it's hard to keep track of them all.
