View Full Version : help on changing gears
Please tell me how you change primary gears. That is, I want to change a stock 54T gear to a 56 or 58, to lower the headspeed. It looks simple, just loosen the 2 hex nuts and drop the gear. A freind of mine tried this and found that he had to heat the bushing a lot to get it off. This destroyed the gear.
Is there a better way to do this?
Thanks,

Yes...remove the whole jack shaft assembly from the helicopter. Remove the two setscrews from the gear, wrap both gears in a good rag. Use a pliers to grasp the pinion gear (with the rag as a cushion) and use your hand (with the rag as a cushion) to turn the gear back and forth and pull it off the shaft.
We use green locktite on those screws and often it gets in between the shaft and gear which locks it on really well, which is good, until you need to get it off. I have never seen one I could not get off as described above though.

Thanks Chris,
