I know this is not an R/C device but it is so cool I just had to post it. I saw this a while back when it aired on TV and now it's online. Once there, click on continue, then click the links in the top right menu to see the amazing video! You can actually see a midair dogfight with another rival bird not to mention the incredible view from the onboard POV cameras!

Note: If this link fails in the future, perform a search for Spy on the Wild at www.animalplanet.com and navigate to the eagle camera.

Holy Crap that's cool! So, I wonder what's next.....maybe some way to make the eagle radio controlled?

It just aired again on AP last weekend. The whole show featuring different animals and how they fitted them with tracking and monitoring devices was fascinating. One example was how they put a micro transmitter on a honeybee's back and mapped it's perfect flight path from gathering nectar hundreds of yards away back and then to the hive.

I've seen that bird footage. amazing stuff!! now to add pan/tilt and some GY401 stabiliztion! LOL

Seriously though..... if there were a way for a large condor like bird to carry a camera rig that was capable of shoot smooth shots I'd find myself a trainer and get one!

Realiabiity??!!! how about 101% reliable. When's the last time you saw a bird lose his tail feathers and come piro'ing down?!

WOW!!! How did I miss this one. Wireless cameras give a 1/2 decent picture when you go high end. Not HD but impressive. I did see it wavier under attack though.

Well, if you liked that, you're sure to like this too. This guy's R/C plane got swarmed by several hawks, he calls buzzards. They all came in real close one after the other and he got it all on tape from a rear facing onboard camera! The video link is in the second post of the thread.

So under the current FAA guidelines, these would be considered fully autonomous commercial-use UAVs right? Man, I hope the FAA doesn't find out about this! Those eagles are SO GROUNDED! It would be a bear to get a COA for these babies. It would be tough finding a DER to sign off on them too I'll bet. And then there's the 400 foot and line of sight rule. Geez!

This is one of the coolest things I've seen though.
