Hi All,
I've just joined the ranks of Spectra-G owners.
What's the best orientation to mount the motor in a spectra?
I'm probably going to get a century V2 pipe with restrictor unless the TRM pipe becomes available soon.
Does the V2 fit forward or rear facing motors (or both).
When will the TRM pipe be available?

The choice is yours on which position to run the motor; I have used both ways with great results. I personally like forward facing a little better because the balance is more "natural" with the Duralite system and the 14 ounce tank arrangement.
I quite sure that the Century version 2 will fit either configuration; someone can chime in here with more personal experience on this muffler..BILL?. The canopy trim should be the only substantial change due to one position/other of the motor.
I am not sure when the TRM pipe will be available; sorry! :arggg: I should have the test pipe back soon so that the header mount can once again be tested.

in my scale heli its facing forward and i only use an 8 oz tank and i get nearly 15 min of flight time on a 25 lb bird!
i couldnt imagine trying to get to the plug if it was facing backwards inside a fuselage...so mine is forward...

I decided to go with forward facing because i like the idea of having the fuel tank visible and under the CofG.
I also like the shorter, neater fuel lines with the forward mounted motor plus i want to be ready for the TRM pipe in the future.
John, i have two questions for you. What 14oz fuel tank are you using and are you running the resistor spark plug cap in the forward facing motor?
I have a Fromeco Arizona Reg and 4800 LiIo pack. I don't have a governor amp so the right side of the frame next to the receiver well is clear. The LiIo pack fits perfectly there with the reg on the radio tray.
BTW, it takes about 15 mins to convert from rear facing to forward facing. Ask me how i know

I am using the stratus YS tank. I am also using the plug wire shield and resistor cap. Had a bad radio hit on Sunday, first day of flying with engine forward, have not found cause yet.

CustomPC,
I am using a Dubro 14 ounce tank behind the motor. It fits with no problems and the Stenz filter and 1/8" OD Tygon tubing still works fine in this tank.
I do not use a resistor boot, but I am running a shield on my high tension wire that did eliminate an early problem (rearward facing motor) with the base load antenna being blanked by a "field" surrounding the ignition system. Shielding and using a full length antenna did take care of the problem. I have since been just as successful using a base loaded antenna.
Sorry to hear about your problems Dave. Chasing the gremlins is the WORST of this hobby, especially when you cannot find the problem. You know in the back of your mind that the little bugger is still lurking! :arggg: :nanabobo :dontknow
Hope you get it sorted out (let us know!)

Hi John,
I got a Dubro 14oz tank in the mail today. I'm a bit worried about the extended lower half of the tank.
If i use the MA clunk line, it seems too flexible and allows the filter to slide back into this section of the tank (below the bung).
Not really a problem unless you fly inverted with 1/2 tank of gas, in which case it's possible that the filter could be held out of the fuel.
The Dubro supplied clunk line is not so flexible to allow this to happen (but it's not gas resistant).

Don't worry about it. I have been using this tank for quite a while now and the clunk moves just fine without getting hung up.
make sure that you use the supplied fuel line for the clunk (or it's direct replacement) as it is key to the performance of the clunk.

I must say Daves Spectra was looking really smooth.
It was a shame to see it self destruct :arggg:
