i know this might sound like a topic for the engine/muffler forum, but here goes, i have a freya with a ys80 which i just got back from ys with new bearings, first i place the woodruf key, then the slotted washer that fits over the key, then the ex blue hub(new), then the washer, then the nut, when its not tighten down my runout on the inner side of the ex hub is at .0001 or less, but when i start to tighten down on the prop nut it get out of whack although way up to .0005-.0006 which is way to much, in turn makes the clutch/start shaft wobble, any hirobo freya or xspec owner can offer some advice on getting this matter solved, in getting a lower runout. thanks in advance....

I've been racking my brain on this one. The only thing that I can think of is the Woodruf key is moving. They can get skewed and prevent the hub from fully seating.

I forget, does the EX fan hub thread onto the crankshaft? I'm thinking no. Do you have the old hub? Is is the screw-on type? If so, try that one and see what your runout looks like. It's possible that the combo of the YS80 and EX hub just won't work.

i think this is the newer style hub its slotted to fit into the groove of the woodruff key(which is new). i might just buy a stock freya hub, and see the difference, or am i just wasting my moola?.

Has this engine been in this helicopter before? Was it okay then? What has changed since the it was removed?

I was under the inpression that you removed the engine to get the bearings replaced, then decided to upgrade to the EX hub when you got the engine back. Is this not the case?

I also seem to remember there being different hubs for different engines. Maybe you have an OS or Enya hub.

FWIW: I have a YS61 in my Freya and the runout it perfect with the stock hub. It is my understanding that the 61 and 80 use the same dimensions on the crankshaft (somebody will correct me if this is wrong).

My Thunder Tiger YS upgrade fan unscrewed right off my YS 61 and screwed right on my YS 80, so I would say you are correct sir. Make any headway with MRC Reefguy?

Any reason why you can't shim the hub?

thanks for your help guys, at first i found a tiny dent on the front bearing where the slotted washer goes on, so i sent the ys80 to ys perf. to have the bearings replaced, just to make sure that was not part of my problem, i originally purchase this motor second hand with only 1 gallon of fuel on it till they upgraded to a 90,
since i could not get the runout to be close, i had a ys61 before and still have a little vib, so when i went to a bigger engine i decided to start checking runouts, till i found this problem, jeff sent me a new ex hub to see if that was part of the problem, well i got a call from jeff, he told me to pack it in a box(everything) and he will take care of it, its just that i do not know of any fellow heli pilots that have had problems like this, i'm sure its something stupid as ususal, i could stare at all month long and never see the problem.

Sometimes all it takes is a second set of eyeballs to spot the problem.
