YS91/SB16 question

I am considering putting a YS91 in my Fury Extreme and just want to make sure everything will work.

Will 8.45:1 gear ratio work well with the YS91?

Will 1750 headspeed keep this engine in the correct powerband?

Is the SB16 the same diameter as the SB15?

Do I have to change any of the engine mounts or add engine mount shims to make it fit correctly? Right now I have a YS80 in it.

Will the YS91 work well WITHOUT the Viper head and shims?

Will the same fan work on the YS91 as the YS80?

What plug works best for the 91?

Will the 91 fit in the cooling shroud without modification?

Yes, It's what I use and it seems to be ideal.

No, it will fit fine.

My flame suit is on but this engine works just fine out of the box.

Yes.

I don't know since I haven't tried them all. I use an OS 8 and it's quite satisfactory.
Will the 91 fit in the cooling shroud without modification?

Yes, but you must trim the fan shroud mounting screws in the head area to keep from scarring the finish on the head.

I am going to move this to the MA Forum because I know there are a bunch of team pilots and MA people watching their forums and you will get a faster answer, but I'll leave a shadow here in engines and mufflers so it gets maximum exposure. You should get an answer very soon.

Jeff,

The SB16 will work great with the YS91 at 8.45. It will work even better with a Viperhead if you choose to add one later.

IMHO the new clampless design is the way to go - if you don't you'll need one of the 'super' clamps (like the one from Erich Stoltz). We've had no luck with the stock clamp or any of the Hatori clamps.

I know what you mean about the other clamps. I've also had no luck with them. Finally got the one from gjestco.
