I looked at putting the KEmax on my computer so I could make my own helis. I found out that the KEmax is a plug-in for 3DS-Max program. You need 3DS-Max to make it work. I found that 3DS-Max costs about $650 or if you are a student you can get a one year liscense for 190. That puts it out of my usage.
Check knifeedge.com for more info.

KEMax is an export tool for 3DS Max. The documentation (http://www.knifeedge.com/KEmax/) we provide on our website whould answer most questions you have about making models with Max. We made another tool called 3ds2kex that converts 3ds files to our custom model file format. Lots of programs can write 3ds files.
Creating a model helicopter for use with a simulator is not a simple task. There are a few guys that are having success using our tools to make models. Most of the aircraft that are worth having are being made by those who similar things for a living. I'm not trying to discourage you, I just want you to know that if you don't have any 3d modelling experience it will be an uphill battle.
