How can I tell if this gear is a newer gear, not the older one?

Old one with the roll pin. Id suggest you not use it, fly the new shaft and gears. See if you can trade those for a new one.

Could be the one for the output shaft on the gearbox but im 99% sure its not as that one uses a different type of pin, a roll pin I think it is.

There has been no change to the input gear, it has a roll pin. 123-83 is the correct part number for the input gear. The new output gear has set screws and the correct part number is 123-92. It requires the new output shaft 123-90.

The original gears that came with the very first open gearboxes were a different color.
