I just got my maiden flight done.

Sorry about the bad quality. And the cameraman was shaking because of the cold and it was really windy!
The heli seems really nice. It is very solid in hover and flies nice. I ran the advanced settings and they didn't really fit my style of flying so I'll be trying again soon with some other settings.
And I wasn't geared right. I've got to fix all of this and maybe try again tomorrow. But so far, so good.:)
Anyone else who would like to comment their Outrage 550 so far??

Sounded like the head was bogging quite hard at times. Was that a 12T pinion?
Needs more head speed, at a higher torque range it seems.
Otherwise, Very nice flying. :YeaBaby:

More HS will result in less torque from the motor.

Thanks.
Yes it was a 12t pinion. I know I was geared wrong because i read my headspeed to 1500 at 70% throttel. I just set the throttel to 95% to get around 2000rpm because I just had to test this thing. I will re-gear tomorrow:)
I'm going to use the gov in the cc85hv and see if it boggs less;)

I know, but I want more headspeed. It will give you a feel of more power.
And I was running curves in this vid just to test the machine. I will be using the gov mode as soon as I have time to set it up:) THat will probably help;)

With a higher HS you store more energy in the blades that you can take advantage of over very short periods.

What motor, battery and ESC are you using now?

Thanks, is the Z-power an 1100 or 1390 KV?

1110.
I was going to run the NEU motor, but of course it was out of stock. That was my first choice;) But I ended up with a z-power.
A friend of mine flies a streched t-rex 600 ( 700) with 10s and a z power and it works really well, so i bet it's not a bad motor:)

I have a Z--30- 1100kv that has been a very good motor. I have my choice for my OR-550 of the Z-Power, a Scorpion 4020-1100 or a 4020-1390. I am going to initially use the scorpion 4020-1390 on 5S and go from there

Can't wait to hear how 5s works out. Sounds like it's going to be too little power?

I know it isnt ideal. Ill be able to get the head speed I need with gearing. With a 13t pinion ill have over 2150 head speed. All I can really do is fly circuits, 8's, stall turns etc. I just started flying helis eariler this year and Im 53 years old now so Ill never be a hot dog pilot. I keep getting more helis but Ive got a long ways to go flying wise.
Ill be starting out with 530mm rotor blades
I have a lot of fun trying

How come you didn't like the advanced settings? What was wrong with the way it flew?

It was just too much respons. It was really quick, but it didn't fit my style of flying.
I see that HC flies with 40% on his swash. I flew with 55% so the advanced settings would probably have been good for me with less cyclic %, but the servos should be able to travel a little more or else they wont work optimaly!!
So I'm trying out some new settings where I can run about 55% cyclic, and still be happy:)
Thats the great thing a bout this heli. There are so many options!!:)
It could also just have been the cold that didn't give me a smooth feel on the sticks. But I don't think so

Try the 14T pinion on the Z30 1100 to get the HS up.

I know. I started with 12t because I didn't know which was the right to use. But I'm trying again when the weather allows for it.

I checked the heli today and I'm actually not on the recommended advanced settings. That may be the problem.
I'll try again soon!

You want your HS around 2300d to 2350 on this size heli.

You want your HS around 2300d to 2350 on this size heli. Not for everyone! For smooth aerobatics and "warbird style" flying there is no reason for more than 2000 rpm. 2300 is great for smackdown 3D though, sure. :)

that seems a bit high for a 550. is there something about the design that it allows more headspeed?

Bobby S recommended that headspeed, and stated it works well at that HS. I run my Logo 500 at that headspeed also, and love it. Doesn't bog easy, and bob's and weaves with the best of em!
