I set the tail into a new Stratus and wonder why the pinion would bind after twisting the boom and twirling the tail blades around a few times. I noticed the mesh kept getting tighter and tighter.. Thought the pinion was acting up.. I found that the crown gear was unscrewing from where it is mounted. No, not the sprag bearing either.. Has anyone seen this and how do you remedy this? Should it be tightened and locktighted or what?
Thanks, Marshall

Crown gear sits on top of the main gear. All parts are in their place. When I took it off I could actually unscrew the top gear assembly off of the tube that fits in the sprag gear. Sometimes units are self tightening and I'm not sure if that is the case here. I've had X-tremes in the past and never had this happen.

Marshall,
Unscrew the tube from the hub. Clean the threads on the tube and inside the hub very well with acetone or alcohol. Take some red or green loctite and put on the threads. Screw the tube back into the hub fully. Let the loctite cure for 24 hrs. That should take care of the problem.

Thanks David, That's just the answer I was looking for.. I was assuming so but, I'd not had that happen before... It didn't really make sense to me that it would be a floater.
Thanks, Marshall

When I took the unit apart this evening the amount of red locktite that was originally put on the threads was barely detectable.. Not really a good thing. Folks building a new kit may want to double check this.. I know it's reverse threads and tightens but doesn't hurt to be sure..
Thanks for everyones input

It will only happen if the tail is forced backward and also normally only when the model is brand new. After it is flown it gets very tight.
Glad you got it fixed up.
