If anyone out there has stuffed their ION as I have... :( You will notice that the front canopy supports like to take a bite out of the lypo cells!! What I'd like to see is a "U" shaped carbon channel that could be shrink wrapped on the 5s4p packs. I think this type of protection for these valnerable pack would be awesome and save us all alot of $$$ and time (TP included).

I'm about to go out and get some carbon plates to shrink wrap on the sides & bottom of the packs. I bet it wouldn't add much weight. I'd much rather take out the canopy support then a couple cells. Having to send the packs off to TP after every you ding the heli is a head ache even though they are great to deal with!

How about a 5S4P cell holster. This way you could take the cells in and out without removing the canopy. Russ and I would like to find some lightweight plastic cases in the shape of the batteries. We could machine holes in it to save weight and bingo, quick change batteries. This would also protect the cells in case of an accident.

Just a question of concern, if you start enclosing your cells, don't you risk changing a LiPo 'flareup' into a lipo explosion? Rapidly burning material now encased in additional layers of heavy shrinkwrap and carbon? Something to take into consideration. I would modify the heli first before putting the batteries in a confined container, although drilling holes (at least one for every cell location) would give the battery a place to vent.

I also think the batts need "free air" to run cool enough. Be careful putting anything on them that may insulate them.
