I wonder what it's like to be a FF junkie!!! I'll admit I'm a heli junkie, have been for many years...an RC junkie for many more than many...but I have never been able to get things going my way that allow me to attend most FF's...whether it be schedluing for the event as opposed to my work schedule or the honey do list or funds in the bank........or whatever....
I wish I could be a FF junkie....  :!: :glasses2:

set a budget number for the event circuit, and go!
Blacksheep, Chattanooga, Clints, and Birmingham are all within 4 hours max of ATL. and these are the best of the best to attend.
Actually, this is all I'm planning on attending this year, even in spite of the gas prices..

Dude you live in Atlanta... it is EASY for you it is Freak Central down there! I planned all my vacation around Heli event this year. Does that make make me a FREAK?

Keith...Atlanta is 8 hours from MayDay...Back when I started the first year of the MayDay event there were people from CA, NV,WA, Candada...

Owning a heli is only a small part of the experience...The FunFly's are the rest. You will have fun if you never took your heli out of the car/truck/trailer.

I can guarantee your enjoyment. The MayDay event is the PERFECT event to get Broke-In with.

The amount of knowledge and entertainment that can be had at a good funfly cannot be fully appreciated until you attend one. Where else can you have that many great pilots to see fly and to learn from. Everyone is always glad to help a heli brother learn something new or work out a problem. That is way beyond any monitary value.

Just got back from the Huntsville Fun Fly and had a great time. I wish everyone that missed it could have been there. It was a spectacular weekend!! :D :D

I guess you're all missing my point.....I love to attend FunFly's. The one that "I will not miss" is the B'ham event. That one, for some reason, I'm able to schedule with no problems. But, the other, whether local like Blacksheep, Chattanooga, Huntsville, Statesboro(Clintstone's B'Day Bash)...or whatever, I'd love to attend, but for some reason, there is always a reason that I cannot :( I want to be like my idle Greg Alderman and attend like 12 heli events per year, regardless of where they are!!! I'm truly a junkie in need of a fix! :glasses2:

Since you (Ilde Greg) give him a call. He might come pick you up, pay your bills, give you a place to stay, and pay someone to work while your gone. That way it looks like he has freinds.
At least thats what I hear he does for all his other followers.

Yeah! Ask Greg how much extra money and time he has outside work and RC helicopters. It is called dedication.

Greg attemds more like 20 a year. :)

It is called not being afraid to use your CC for travel. I would hate to know how much I spend on top of the 750 a month to keep my truck and camper for traveling.....

Damn...how did I get dragged into this thread?

I think for me it is called...I don't have a real life (wife, children, etc...)

Starting next year I probably won't be attending as many...have this funny feeling when I am not working for Uncle Sam I won't be able to take many Friday's off...well at least with pay...

also...the only way I can afford to attend as many as I do is to get as many as I can into the truck and split the costs...:D

BTW...I don't have a Credit Card...I have a Visa check card but that comes out of my checking account...

To be able to attend more events you just need to make them a top priority.

I plan my vacation time around the events and plan my finances accordingly. Make sure to ask for the time off as far in advance as possible to allow you and your employer to plan for it.

Wise use of a credit card allows you to spread the cost of an event over a month or so instead of out of pocket all at one time. Just be sure to plan ahead to have the money to pay the bill in full when it is due. You don't want to pay that interest!!! :(

As Greg said, it also helps to share the expenses with others. Part of a trip is easier than the full ride. Just make sure the people that you are sharing with pay as they go. I have been stiffed before!!

If you don't mind camping, most events have on site camping that is free of charge. That will save you lots of money in hotel bills.

If you really want to go to more events, you might have to make a choice not to do other things that you might enjoy. Just decide which you want to do more and make it happen.

I'd like to go to events as well, only went to my first one two weeks ago. My second one was an open house that MHA had. I plan on going to their June FF. I too would love to go to more events, just hasn't popped up yet. Maybe I can carpool with some people next big event
