Hi everyone,

I have a Walkera 4G3 and have the dreaded tail rotor issue where I have to hold the rudder control too much to the left with left trim to keep it straight. I've played around with the transmitter dip 12 settings and today finally played with the 4 in 1 mix control. I wish I could say I fixed it, but it seems worse. Any ideas?

By the way, for those of you that don't have this issue, when you increase the throttle from the minimum position, could you share what's happening with the tail motor? In other words, as you increase the throttle, does the tail immediately start spinning before the main rotor? My tail rotor starts spinning before the main rotor and the RPM is quite fast.

Thanks!

I had lots of issues with the tail to begin with, have a look in my 4G3 settings thread. The biggest difference I found was after buying wooden blades, no more tail issues after that either :)

Hi,

Which brand of wooden blades and if you don't mind, who did you get them from?

By the way, could this be a radio or receiver problem not recognizing the rudder center point upon initialization?

Thanks,

GP

I don't think so, only having a rate gyro there is no memory of whereabouts the tail is at any time, all the gyro does is try and compensate for the tail moving from wherever it happens to be at the time.

Got the wooden blades from here:

Question: Why wouldn't you want the tail mix (on the rx) turned all the way CW? Maybe the manual is just unclear, but it sounds like the more CW this setting is the better the tail is supposed to hold course. So why would you want to turn it down any?

I too am trying to reduce the amount of left trim on the rudder stick (it takes full left trim to hold the tail *almost* steady in flight).

I have a set of woodies in transit. Maybe have them by this weekend.

Fyi: Just did some playing around with that Mix adjustment on the rx... it has nothing to do with accurracy of the tail from what I can tell. Turning it CW just requires even MORE Left trim on the transmitter to keep the heli from turning right. I actually ended up turning the Mix pot down, CCW, below where the factory had had it set. This finally brought my rudder stick trim very near center in a stable hover (I had to power-down and turn the Mix pot CCW 1/8 turn about 6 times then power-up and test hover before I found the sweet spot finally). Tail still holds ok when pumping the collective up and down, and now with the trim near center it gives me a little adjustment for tail drift from beginning to end of flight. From factory, I had the rudder stick trim nearly all the way to the left to hold the tail in place.... :dontknow
