Wow a response from Finless himself :)
Since I know you read this thread still, thanks for the videos! Your video of flying the HDX 450 has sold me on the item and the videos of putting the HDX 450 together. Now to stop sounding like a fanboy! :)
I hope to get it here soon, I won an auction on ebay for the v3 version, well the title said "HDX 450 v3" but the item description had v2, hopefully, I get the v3 version, but I'll post here and let you know if the servo balls do come with the copter. The only deviation I will be making with the install is installing S3107 servos. My LHS didn't have any HS56s but they did have S3107 which have similiar specs @ 4.8v hopefully they work. I decided to go with them because my Align BEC is 5.0v and I hear I can't run the GY401 @ 6.0v or its not safe to do so.
Thanks, again, for your response and videos! I will keep the thread informed.

totalgeek,
Dont be in AWE man.... I read this thread as do many others and there are many that have the HDX so you are in GREAT company here on Helifreak... BarnOwl is really more knowledgeable than I as he flys one still and I dont :(
I killed mine about 4 months ago and moved on...
Anyway, this post is not really here to discuss this heli as you wont find all the HDX owners here... The Trex forum is the place to ask questions BUT you can ask here too as BarnOwl always checks this forum (Thanks BarnOwl yo da man!).

No problem Bob, but I actually don't call it a HDX anymore. The only thing left from the HDX kit is the frame............And I must admit that for the first time in 2 months I flew my 450 again yesterday.(since the 600 came in).......in the office. (Weather sucks :( )

Yep! same here! My "trainer" heli is the HJDX and the only thing HDX is the frame... It's a GOOD FRAME as no matter how hard it gets pounded it just doesnt break! I have broken at least 4-5 Align CF SE frames by now.

Same here everything has been changed. I bought an extra frame awhile back but it just lays there waiting its turn which never seems to come.

Well I got the HDX 450 today. From an auction similiar to this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=290073396733&rd=1&rd=1
First, item location said Mass but it shipped from China, but got here fairly quickly (the newer auctions do say drop shipped, but the link above is my auction and it shows no wording on dropped shipped from manufacturer)
Second, the box says 3D-X 450SE A-CCPM hopefully thats the same model as on the videos because I didn't get instructions or a DVD :( I can download the vids but it did say DVD included.
There seems to be some ball joints where the tail is included but I don't know if they're for the servo.
I'm somewhat leary of this copter, but guys say this is version 3 and I'll be happy. The video looked great and the parts look awesome, just some stuff wasn't adequetly explained or described.
Eager to put it together, but I'll touch base with Helidirect as well, and see if this is right.

As usual thanks, Bob. I was too eager and put the frame together it went the way your video has it - awesome!
Are you saying I don't have the servo balls? :( That would suck as I can't find servo balls anywhere for TREX450 I wonder if they're part of a package. The quality of the item is great so far, but would hate to keep investing time if I got the wrong model.
Thanks, again, Bob for your personal responses. I guess my next move is with HD but as I said the item looks good, and don't take offense anyone what I meant by "leery" is that I'm thinking I got the wrong model.

It's ther same kit just sold by 2 different sellers so no worries there.
Yea you "might" not get servo balls.... I dont know if the newer kits have them in it.

I have a version 4 here in the UK http://www.sportsmoto.co.uk/acatalog/3DX_450_SE_Pro_Model.html
and This came with the servo balls.
Still havnt flown mine yet, only ran up in conservatory. Trying to contact a local club to help check setup on radio & heli as this is my 1st heli.
I got aluminum balls with my HDX450se v2.

It should include the servo balls. You can use trex aluminum balls as well.

IM thinking of geting a sim, Am I right in saying the PHEONIX is the one to go for, and obviously I assume I would have to use the Trex model for use as an HDX
Thanks

Phoenix is awesome! I dumped Reflex because of it. This is the first sim made with helicopters in mind, and that shows off (Especially on a Dell 24" widescreen..... :glasses2: ) The 450 model is perfect for your HDX450, you'll love it!

Man, I finally got the HDX450 (or in my case 3dx 450) together and it flies NICE. I can't believe how much a good copter helps you. I was using an Axe CP and my HDX (I know its a 3DX but Helidirect and Finless says its an HDX) flies smooth. Took it to my LHS, which is owned by a copter guy, and he says its one of the most stable micros he has ever flown! And he owns a TRex450SE and the new Thunder Tiger E325, and he said this is stable once he dialed in the gyro. I'm glad I got it compared to my Axe CP I'm outside hovering with no problem well I still lose it 6 feet to the left but once it's in air, it holds nicely, my Axe tended to oscillate up and down.
Now that I got this setup, I know the problem lies with me and not the equipment. I already replaced stuff with several TREX parts (mostly ball linkage stuff) and so far works great with interchangeable parts. Now one day I can hopefully fly like Finless in the demo video (which of course is the reason I bought this copter)

*big grin*
I knew there was something similar about you BarnOwl... seems we have something more than the HDX450SE and the 600 in common... he said while staring back at the post on the 24" widescreen... I've got G3.5 and FSOne... I think I'll now have to try out Phoenix...

O.k. trying to overrule this one :D
I have a compaq p1610 24 inch monitor...and a 42 inch plasma screen hanging in my hobby room. That's where i fly Reflex most of the time. :glasses2: ...have to investigate in Phoenix ....haven't tried that one yet. Way better then Reflex? because that one is the best so far i.m.o.
cheers,

I have the HDX450SE V3. It has started to bob the tail up and down in-flight (rythmically) when I make quick elevator changes forward and aft. This happened before and it was a loose ball on the swashplate but everything is tight now.
Anyone have any ideas on this problem. There is also a vibration during motor spool up and for a second during shutdown where the heli shakes and twists.
Please help :(

Sounds like your head speed is low or the motor is bogging when your adding pitch. Whats your pitch/throttle set up?
There is also a vibration during motor spool up and for a second during shutdown where the heli shakes and twists.
Have you had any crashes? If you have - check the feathering shaft etc.
If you havent - check the blades for balance, also check the flybar paddles are evenly spaced. Having your main blades either too loose or too tight can also cause vibration at spool up/down. Be sure to check that nothing has became loose.

Normal Throttle- 0-25-50-75-100%
Normal Pitch-45-60-75-90-100
I don't use idle up yet.

One crash bent the spindle. All new spindle, blades, and servos for swashplate (fried the futaba's now have hitec with metal gears).
The blades are at the same tightness as I have always set them.
flybar is perfectly even on both sides and the paddles parallel to flybar cage.
I can also induce the tail up-down bobble by tapping the main gear on the ground unevenly while hovering close to the ground.
