I also had a good day to test out the new 430XL motor from align...it wakes it up pretty good...but at the expence of some runtime...the one thing that i noticed is that when i spool it down from idle up i get a sort of gear binding noice so i checked my gear mesh and its fine...any ideas...its didnt do this with the 430L...

Yep, the canopy *just* fits... it's a rather long-nosed canopy (thankfully) - notice the little strip of tape on the bat tray... I use it to locate the bat. CG is "perfect" with this placement.
I too love the DSM2 technology... but the glitching I was getting was not RF, it was static being created by the tail belt affecting the servos directly. I could spin the bird up, touch the tail boom, and the cyclic servos would "jump" like crazy. I could then touch the tail drive gear block screws and all would go normal again. Adding the grounding has totally eliminated the problems.

I was wondering if the align bl35X ESC, is a good one to buy for my HDX 450? I will probably also buy the 430L to replace the stock motor that came with it.

I too run the same setup, and it is a great heli. The stock motor lacks the torque of the align motor.
I love your saying about the 2 types of heli pilots, so true!!!

Does anyone know if the "Trueblood S9650 Servo Mount" will work on a HDX450? Or rather does the TREX450 and HDX450 have the same bolt pattern for the boom blocks?
If it doesn't I guess I could use the micro heli 9650 clamp....
What's everyone using to mount this servo on their heli?

I was thinking of getting the "HDX 450 Superior Edition Helicopter Kit V3 ARTF (Sport)" that comes with the following from Helidirect.com:
HDX450 SE V3 helicopter kit
- Mega Power lithium battery 2200mAH 18C 3S - Super Power
- Brushless motor 3550KV - Super Power
- Otter ESC 35A Governor Mode with built in BEC 4A/5V - NEW
- HDX Head Lock Gyro
And a DX6 as a radio. Is this a good combination?

I wanted to use the carbon "Trueblood S9650 Servo Mount" but had no way of knowing if the TREX450 has the same bolt pattern for the boom blocks.
I ordered the Micro Heli 9650 clamp from helidirect and it's perfect for getting a secure straight shot to the tail.

[quote="Finless"]This will be a complete video set to build the HDX 450 Trex.
I just recieved my HDX 450 V3 and went to building and as soon as i got to the head i started seeing differences between it and the one in the video that Finless made.
First off mine didnt come completely assembled as none of the links were put together so i had to disassemble the fly bar cage to get the ball link on.
Anyway after making the linkages the length that Finless suggested in the video nothing above the swash plate is level not even close.
Has anyone else run into this problem?I put the links together and hooked them up the way it looked like the one in the video was but things are way off.
Does anyone have different measurements for the linkages?
Finless had 50mm,48mm and 29mm lengths on the linkages.

My video was a V2. I do not know what changes were made ont he V3 but that would explain it.

Supposedly Helidirect was going to use a better motor on the V3 than what came with the previous versions.
I am curious what people think of this new motor if its any good or not.
I have a (Just Go Fly) 450TH that i have in a bird that i was going to sell to help pay for the HDX and possibly a 600 Trex in the future and want to know if i should put the 450TH in the HDX and put the stock HDX motor in the bird i want to sell.
Thanks for any and all replies!

Anybody flyin the HDX with a DX6? If so would care to share your transmitter setup with me. I am kinda new to this, and am looking for a starting point. I have found some info on setup for the t-rex se, would this be about the same for the HDX? Props to all the people who give great advice on this forum. Great job on the build vids finless, I don't think I could finish this without them. :noteworthy

Finished my HDX450 this weekend after weeks of waiting on parts and limited free time for assembly.
First hover was rock solid stable and my wife said my ear to ear grin was priceless.
Just wanted to say thanks to Finless as your instructional videos were instrumental in getting this all set up. I also must apologize to Helifreak for the excessive use of bandwidth, I must have watched each video half a dozen times letting it all soak in. :D

congrats. What setup did you use on your HDX? I am still waiting on parts to come in this week. I am using HS56 on cyclic, and 430L with align 35g esc, and gy401 with futaba 9254 on tail. Does this sound like a good setup to you guys? And I will also be using my DX6 TX.
Thanks :noteworthy

I guess the only thing i see that i might change would be the 9254 servo on the tail as it is pretty big and from what i see from my HDX is that they tend to be tail heavy.
Is the Trex as heavy on the tail as the HDX?
I have to haver the battery as far forward as the canopy will allow and it is still a bit tail heavy.I am thinking about adding some weight in the nose of the canopy to try and get it balanced.
How big of a deal is it to have a tail heavy heli? Will they fly properly or not?

mine was a bit tail heavy using the 9650 servo on the tail...i have since switched to a 430xl motor and is a bit heavier than the 430l and balances the heli out pretty good...

I just sold the 9254. So is the 9650 my best bet for a tail servo to go with the gy401? Or is there something that will work better.
Thanks

I now prefer the JR 3400G... It outperforms the 9650.

What video would most help me on my build of the 450x CDE? As you can tell, I am new to all of this. I am taking all of this slow so that I can learn but the manual for the 450X CDE sucks.
Thanks,
Robert

Couple things I noticed while building my SILVER FRAME V3 kit:
1. Tail shaft mounts in the frame are no longer 2pc and only tighten by one side. (Split circle 'pinch' mount)
2. Anti-Rotation bracket is not slotted into the G10 frame anymore.. there's a spare "Small" blue aluminum block you mount to the bracket, then that's held in place by 2 of the frame screws located next to the Canopy Mounts. (LOT easier to remove the head this way, since you can just loosen the 2 screws and swing the bracket off the head.)
3. Good luck getting the landing gear skids into the springs without scratching the HELL out of them! :(
4. Aileron and Pitch horns WILL hit the frame at full negative pitch once you add cyclic on the sticks.. Gotta adjust that out with your endpoints.
I'd STRONGLY recommend picking up the TRex Rod and Ball Link set for like $4.00 to replace the rods and links that come in the kit. Make sure you get the kit with ends, that has the 3 Servo to Swash links, 2 flybar links and 2 pitch links. You won't be able to replace the SWASH to FLYBAR links as the kit comes with 2 rods that aren't the proper lengths to use.
The Aline rods are MUCH sturdier with better threads... The links themselves also seem to be much higher 'quality', but make sure you have a sizing tool, or a spare ball mounted to something you can work the links on to loosen them up a tad. (Pliers once on a spare ball work great!)
The Aling links took the little bit of slop out of my flybars, as well as providing a more adjustable, sturdier link for the PITCH links!
On a side Note: Mine didn't come with canopy grommets, but if you're using a 9650 servo (or similar) for the tail.. grab 2 of the unused grommets out of the servo package, they work great!

Hey VBdave,
My silver kit is in the mail and I should be getting it this week (hopefully early in the week). I've never built a heli before. I've been flying my blade cp for a couple of months and it isn't working well anymore so I decided to get a nicer one. It's hard for me to understand a lot of the lingo that you use because I don't have the kit yet, but I hope that your ideas will make more sense once I have my kit and have started assembling. Here is the setup I have coming for future reference:
HDX 450 Superior Edition Helicopter Kit V3 -- Silver Frame
Hitec HS-56HB Karbonite Gear Sub Micro Universal x3
Futaba S9650 Digital Servo for the tail
Castle Creations Phoenix-35 Brushless ESC
Spektrum DX7 7Ch Heli w/AR7000
GY401 Futaba Gyro with SMM Technology
MEGA POWER Li-Po Battery 2200mAH 18C 11.1V x2
Linkage balls and screws - HDX450SE/T-REX (http://www.helidirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=1379)
Do you think there is anything else I should know about or that I need to buy to successfully complete the build? Thanks a lot for any help, and I hope that if I have questions you guys here can answer them. :D

I don't have a pitch guage, and I'm not sure about the connectors for my motor. I guess I'll find out when all my stuff gets here, hopefully Monday :D
