Thanks again Bob, I'll do that just as soon as I get home from work.

Boy I wasn't expecting the spin-up after I turned off my TX. This really set the ticker going.

I'm wondering where in the documentation this is covered off. I didn't see it in the ESC programming guide! Or maybe it was in the TX guide!!! :dontknow

It's in the radio manual and has nothing to do with the ESC...
ALSO you should NEVER EVER turn off the radio with power to the heli!!!!

ALWAYS do it in this order. Turn on radio, then plug in heli... Unplug heli, then turn off radio!!!

Made the plunge and now I am the owner of a HDX 450 V3!!!

Is there an update of instructions for the V3 build out there? Is there much differnece in the build?

Thx for the assistance.

Not much is different in the build really.

BTW all, I started a new Official HDX-450 thread on RCuniverse.com, so any members or prospective members should come subscribe so we can get a help base going to all the HDX owners.

I am in the process of assembling my HDX 450 and I am trying out the electronics. I connected everything up and powered it up and I noticed that motor is spinning in reverse. I can get to spin in the correct direction if I switch around some leads but I don't think it's correct. Any idea what I'm doing wrong or is switching around the leads the expected behavior? Setup info below.

My ESC has the following wire colors, black, Red and White.
My Motor has, Red, Black and Yellow.

Expected Configuration which leads to motor spinning backwards,
ESC Red Wire -> Motor Red Wire
ESC Black Wire -> Motor Black Wire
ESC White Wire -> Motor Yellow Wire.

Configuration which leads to motor spinning in correct direction,
ESC Red Wire -> Motor Yellow Wire
ESC Black Wire -> Motor Black Wire
ESC White Wire -> Motor Red Wire.

Is it possible I hocked something else up wrong? I think if any of the leads on the power side of the ESC were hocked up wrong it won't work at all. Is this correct? I checked the polarity on the receiver connection and it's correct so that is why I think the issue is on the ESC output side.

I never did any programming of the ESC so it's factory default. It's a Castle Creations Phoenix-35 Brushless ESC.

Suggestions?

Reversing any TWO wires is normal to get the motor to turn in the right direction. The color of the wires makes no difference, just used to identify one from the other. Hope this helps John

Mr Finless this question is for you.

I set up the V3 HDX450. When I set the servos to 90 degrees, no matter what I do the arms will NOT go level on the 2 sections above the swash plate.

Thing is, the PITCH is perfectly level even tho the rest is not. and I have perfect + and - 10 degrees.

There is NO binding along the full path and it is very smooth. I tried the helicopter and it hovered perfect, forward flight was fine. I am just using the G90 Servo so The tail is weak but thats not the HDX's fault.

My question to you is If the Swash is level at center stick, the Blades are level, and I get perfect +,- 10 Degrees, and the sliding up and down is not binding anywhere, Does it matter if the sections inbetween grips and swash are not in line?

Well all that will happen is you will get a EXPO type effect in the full pitch range because the bell cranks will move more one way than the other becasue they are not in line and level.
You wont notice this until you start flying inverted and such AND it will be very subtile anyway... Heck I might not even notice it. BUT in the end it's not a proper set up and I am picky!

it seems with the geometry in the head, its linear no matter how it moves.

Maybe its by design

Hello Bob, hello everybody,

I would have some question with Otter ESC. I bought this for my Trex SE. I could program that followed the manual and that worked fine.
But some theoretical question came into my mind.
So:
- this ESC can cut-off. This means what exactly? That will switch off the motor completely or just lower the speed of that? Which is the limit? Can I modify that, because I didn't find any description on this?
- i enabled governor however I'm just a beginer but practiced pilots said to me that's a useful thinks for me too because I can fly for longer time with the same battery. This is understandable, but how much will be the RPM in that mode? I can modify that with throttle curve if I mentioned?
- hard timing and soft timing is not clear for me also. That means something sync on the motor or whatever? I understood that by default use soft timing because that safe some power but that won't be good for agressive flying, that requires hard timing. Of course these two modes depends on the type of the motor as well. So if I use soft timing at the begining that won't cause any problem?
Because sometimes when I start flying and raising the RPM brfore gov, the heli starts to shaking. That time I mode stick to lowest position and try again and that time everything works well. Is this a sync problem és my battery is weak? (Quantum Power 2200mAh 16/20C)

So these are my question. Just! ;-)
I'm waiting for your answers, and thank you!

Cheers,
Marcell

Hello all. I just bought a used hdx 450 V2. Its never been flown. I am a novice on an extremely tight budget(I know, wrong hobby). I am going to use the electronics from one of those darned RTF birds, the Falcon 3d, however I will be using a Futaba 7CHP Tx. If those dont work, what are some servos and ESC's that are affordable that would be used on the HDX for a figure 8 flier? Also is there any heads up I should know about the V2? THanks, excited to join the HDX family

Austin

Congrats on the new heli, but be prepared to spend a little. It's inevitable, especially if you start crashing. Anywho:

The cheapest servos that work on these birds are probably TowerPro SG-90's but I wouldn't suggest it. You can get by, but you risk burning or stripping them out and spending more money in a crash.

A cheap ESC would be the Dynam 30A.

Hey thanks Trumpet, if not the SG 90's what would you suggest?

I kinda only know the two ends of the spectrum. Most of the guys are running Hitec HS-65's ($25 each) or some such. They're pretty much the standard. I think the predecessor was the HS-55 ($12 each) and HS-56's ($24 each, karbonite gears). They're all fairly expensive, so I haven't owned any. I'm using the JR DS285's that came with my transmitter, and they work fine.

I am thinking of packaging the HDX450SE with 2.4Ghz TX RTF package. Price about 399usd. What do you think about that?

I am putting the final touches on my 450 and I noticed something odd. The main blade grips, only one moves as the swash moves up and down. If I rest my fingers on the fly bar then both will move(twist) as the swash goes up and down. Is this normal??? THe rest of the head parts seem to move freely, the linkages are the same length, whats going on???

Just adding a thank you for all you have done for this fine hobby and letting you know that without your videos I probably would have sold my heli and bought a buggy sad isn't it LOL!

thank you

ok, I have yet another question. My tail servo seems to have too much throw. When giving full stick input the slider gets pushed against the tail case or the tail blade. I am supposed to stop this with end point adjustment right? How do I do this? I tried on channel four but it doesnt seem to make a difference

NO do NOT change your end points.... use the LIMIT pot on the 401 gyro to adjust throw limit.

I am liking the HDX450 more than my 450SE now.

Cant put my finger on it exactly why. It just seems more crisp. But it could just be set up.

Man I am having a hell of a time with the build of the HDX 450, I went to install the flybar and I am taking it should have slid through with out much resistance right? well 1 bent flybar later and 4 bars on order with the flybar assembly with it I figured I would just try to replace it. I mean I had a hard VERY hard time pulling the bar back the 1/4 of the way I got it in place. "yes I did remove the screws that had the bar in place but I think I was getting hung up on the bearings" so anyways any idea why it would take a great amount of force to get it through? I did use some triflow to see if that would help but I bent the bar on the pull out. I am not getting to discuriaged but any ideas would be great

Hi everyone,

I am finishing building my HDX 450 V3 that i received two weeks ago. I must thank Finless for his great video they were part of the decision to buy the HDX 450. the kit was bundeled with a 3500 Kv motor. I am planing to use some parts that i already have in hand, Align 25 amps ESC (Align 35 amps on order), Align 430L motor, Futaba GY-401, Futaba s9650 for the tail, Spektrum DX6, Tower Pro for the head. (i will change them in few weeks for HS65MG)

Now i have a couple question for you people:

Am i better to use the my Align 430L motor or the one that came in the kit ?

I found the Futaba S9650 to be verry big compared to a HS56 that i have at home, the rod that goes from the s9650 to the tail link seem to be too long, the servo is almost touching the Heli frame where the boom enter, is it normal ? do i have to cut the rod a bit ?

Thanks Again Finless for the video it was a great help !

I have a new HDX 450 and I can't get the links to thread on the shortest of the links joiner part. Also some of your build is not the same as my kit. The anti rotation parts are different. There are no slots in the side frame pieces but there is an extra aluminum brace like the ones on the bottom of the frame, Am I supposed to use that along with the anti rotation part and screw it in to the side frame pieces???

Thanks for your help in advance.
