Who is using a different CF card in the 14MZ or the 12Z than the Futaba card that is recommended?

I am using a sandisk 256M card from Best Buy in my 14.

Hi Will,

Do you know why Futaba claims that any card other than Futaba's will destroy the radio. I’ve been waiting for a card (on backorder) and would just rather pay much lees and get much more.

I don't recall Futaba claiming other CF cards will destroy the radio. Primarily they want you to purchase their-brand card, that's a given ... but, since it's impossible to test every single card-type out in today's market, it also easier to simply state that their radio only works with theirs. Knowing this, it is possible (although highly unlikely) that certain CF cards could cause detrimental damage to their radio systems.

I stick an "Eagle Tec" 256M CF card into the 14MZ everything just went blizzard.

I think I had it.

Finally got the thing going again after 3 hardware reboot.

All Sandisk CF cards (from 125M to 1G) "appear to work". However some mixing functions went amok after loading and saving data a couple of times. I am told it is the driver chip inside the card that is making all the difference.

Really who need anything more than the stock 32M card unless you want to store a lot of music files.

Futaba said using anyother card would void the warranty.

I just put a Canon 32mb in mine and it seems to work fine, but I haven't used it much yet.

I've tried a bunch of different cards (up to 1GB) and all non-high-speed (non-ultra) CF cards seem to work okay. Stick with familiar brands like Sandisk, Canon, PNY, Kingston, et. al. and you'll be okay. Stay away from generic CF brands or CF cards sold on eBay (you usually get what you pay for).

Thanks for all your responses. It's better to see what someones has already done rather than re-invent the wheel! I have a spare 256 mb Lexar I'll give it a shot with and let you know how it works out..

Thanks, Marshall

Thanks for the update. I see the local electronics store has NOS 132mb SanDisk CF cards for $17. I'll pick one up.
