Hey All,

Thought I'd show you a picture of the new Sky & Technology Quark 80B speed controller that just landed through my door. Needless to say I am impressed by the look of the unit and it's nice packaging.

The ESC itself is in a fairly substantial metal case/heatsink with all the main wires pre-soldered to the unit. There is ferrite rings over the main power cables into the ESC & the Rx. connections coming out of it.

As is the norm for Quark there appears to be the coloured lights for setting up purposes and a nice sized button for accessing/accepting settings.

I'm looking forward to trying it out :D

I shall be fitting this ESC asap to my Swift after some events here in the UK, as I plan on going up to 6s for a little extra power and trying these much talked about Emoli cells.

I have the Quark 65 controller, it is very nice, and easy to set up.
Mine's in a QJ8 and it's set up in AIR mode not heli mode, so no governor.
I have a v-curve for throttle, but I am interested in trying out the governor feature.
Please post your observations however you set it up as i am very interested.
Apparently they stuff the 85 in the same case as the 65 as my 65 is identical..

How much lipo's can it handle?

Hey Mike,

Will do as soon as I try the ESC out. It looks very well made & I know the smaller Quark23A in my 3D PRO goes well and I expect this 80A to be the same.

Hey Laurens,

Up to 6s, 22.2 volt LiPo mate.

There are many people running 8 cells using the Hacker A30 8XL and the Quark 65.
Both of these are above the max recomendations, (5 cells for the motor and 6 or 8 on the ESC) but I guess as long as the current draw isn't too high it's OK to do.

does this controller have soft start and gov mode or is it a plank only controller ??

It will run anything from RC cars to helis (with all the bells and whistles like governor and soft start) to airplanes.
It has many parameters, pretty darn nice.

Hey Jeremy,

As Mikes said this controller would do everything if you wanted it to, with all the right features for airbourne models.

Check out the specs on the Sky & Technology web site.

I haven't as yet wired this into my model as it's running well with the 6s setup I've just switched to, I may see if I can get it reviewed somewhere first so that it gets the recognition it deserves!
