I'll be building my spectra G soon. Are there any good guide on building this model? A walk through would be nice. I'm especially interested in knowing which areas deserves attention.

I got the Futaba 9CHP radio/receiver with 4 9252 servos. I'm ordering a Gy611 Gyro too.

1.Which engine should I get? I heard the Zenoah 231 modified is pretty good. Any place stock them or have a good price?

2. What blade combinations is the best? I'm thinking 710mm main blade and 105 mm tail. But I don't know which brand is the best. Please tell me, and also where to order them.

3. What about mufflers? I heard the Hatori pipe is nice but it has a tendency to fall off. What should I do?

4. What type of engine oil should I use and what is the best mixture ratio? At my local Wal Mart they got the 2 cycle oil for lawnmowers and chainsaws, can that work?

What other miscellaneous stuff do I need to operate my gasser?

Thanks for the help.

Hi,

Like you, i just got a Spectra-G.

John Garst (Bigcr) made an excellent build video on a Spectra-G with plenty of great tips. Just do a search here and you should be able to find it. It's pretty big at around 400Mb.

Also, download the Spectra-G users guide from MA which has some reccemendations on setup and oil usage.

The Zenoah 231PUH is very good, the TRM modified motor is even better. Try Rick's as i believe they stock both.

710 mains and 105 tails is correct. You get some 105mm plastic tail blades with the kit. Blades are a personal preference choice as each brand will have a different "feel". I went with the Radix blades at both ends.

The early Hatori's did get loose often. The latest Hatori pipe (#957) has a stainless steel adapter plate that suposedly fixes the issue.
Some people also use the Century Torpedo V2 pipe with good results.

You radio, servos and Gyro are a great match for the heli.

Recemmended oil is a mineral based two-stroke oil for the first gallon and a good quality Synthetic for the rest of the engines life.

All the info you need can be found here in these forums.

Look for Spectra Build. There are really two, part 1 and part 2. However, if you want them in smaller chunks, the part 1 is broken down into 5 chunks, as is the part 2.

John's video was highly helpful for mine.

I searched Rick's for the TRM modified 231 engine but can't find it. They only have this one here:

I'd appreciate it if someone can tell me where I can purchase a Zenoah 231 TRM engine.

BTW, do you guys sand off that seam that runs down the middle of the canopy? I'd like to paint it a nice professional finish. How much does it cost if I send it some where? thanks

The modified 231's come directly from MA or you can send your new 231 to have it modded.
