For anyone wishing to lower their headspeed, (as stock it unloads to something over 2000 rpm) we will trade a 55 tooth gear for the stock 52 tooth gear. This change will drop right at 100 rpm from the headspeed and draw a little more torque from the motor.

Chris,
How about for a 60? I already bought a 55 Tooth. Changing the gear proved to be quite an adventure. When assembled at the factory they must have put the Loctite for my one way on the pinion because it was on there really tight . One of the setscrews rounded and then I had to make a tool to press it off of the shaft.
What looked like an easy job turned out too be a bear. Just glad I had the proper tools. Mill to center drill the setscrew and a 2 ton Arbor press to push the gear off of the shaft after heating the insert. Actually the gear pressed off of the center bushing then I pressed the bushing of the shaft.
I assume the gear was mounted to the shaft with green Loctite?
Anyhow it is back together and I will try the 55 tooth tomorrow.

We have 60 tooth gears on order and should have some in a few weeks.
Yeah, we tighten those gears on that shaft really tight. If it's loose, weird things happen. I think a little heat should help a lot to remove those.

Installed my 55T gear last night - guess I got lucky 'cause my stock gear was fairly easy to remove. The gear was still fixed to the shaft after removing the setscrews, but a sharp twist while keeping the shaft fixed (grab the main gear with the assmbly. still in place and twist the secondary) loosened it up.
Test flight tonight :D

Has anyone used the 55 tooth gear yet. Did you loose much power?

Russ has.

It brings the headspeed down a bit (to about 1870 / 1770 under load) and produces more torque at the blades.
IMHO 55T gear makes it feel a lot more like it's 90 powered nitro brothers w/ 8.45 gear ratio - you haven't "lost" the power, you've simply traded some headspeed for some more torque.

Rob is exactly right. After flying moor with the 55 tooth I would say it is probably the right ratio for 3D and most other sport flying. The 52 tooth just does not give the motor the advantage it needs to pull as well as needed to compare with the 90 glow. With the 55 tooth gear the motor does not draw as much current either witch means your performance does not drop off as much as the battery gets depleted, mine is still pulling very well at ten minuets where it was loosing power before at about seven minuets. The head speed is just right now, at least for the power currently available. I don’t think a 60 tooth gear is necessary for most, not for me any way; I always like to run the head as fast as I have power for with in reason. This (55 tooth) gives me the torque I need to do what I want and still keeps the head speed pretty high, a good balance. I think Min Air is offering a free replacement, a 55 tooth for your 52 tooth lay shaft gear. I would take them up on the offer.

I would agree with Russ. I'm getting better performance and more flight time.
52 T = 10 min 3D flying = 6000 mah to charge batteries
55 T = 12 min 3D flying = 6000 mah to charge batteries

The 55T gear is 124-55 - no other parts needed.
the sec. gear assembly doen't need to be moved - the mesh is set by loosening the upper and lower motor mounts and sliding the motor to the rear.

Received my 55T today.
Had no problems getting the original gear off. Took about 35 seconds.
Put 2 drops of green locktite on the shaft, then slid the replacement into place. Pulled one of the set screws out so I could check it was over the flat... Nnnnoooooo!!! Locktite set and I couldn't get the gear to move.
I was so pissed I wanted to kick myself in the nuts.
Ended up destroying the gear trying to get it to budge. Actually, the hub is still stuck to the shaft. I'm ordering a complete stack, because I'm tired of screwing with it.
