Guys, I'm ordering the following kit for a Stratus that will be running S9451's at 6Volts. Do I need a Safety switch with this set-up? What's the difference between one of the safety switches and a regular switch?

Planned set-up:
4000mah Duralite / JR Heavy duty switch / Fromeco dual voltage Regulator (6Volts and 5 volts for Gyro & tail servo).

the Duralite failsafe switch is wired so that if the switch goes bad, it fails ON leaving radio power.
Duralite also makes a 6v regulator and step down for the tail servo.

I would suggest also using the Duralite 6 volt regulator. Then use the Step down for the tail servo. The Step down steps the voltage down .7 volts from what is being supplied. So it would be 5.3 volts with a 6 volt input.

I run all switch safe regulators.

I've actually messed up a bit then - as I've already ordered the Dual Voltage Regulator and just a normal JR heavy duty switch. How likely is a switch failure?

Would you chaps suggest I sell these items on the net and purchase the Duralite 6V Switch/Reg plus step down instead then?

Well switch failures do happen from time to time. It is hard to predict when or if they will happen. I have used the Duralite regulators with fail safe switch for a few years. I have had one switch fail on a regulator. How did I know it was failed? I could not turn off the power to the receiver. The way this system works when the switch contacts are open, power is on to the system. The contacts have to close to turn off power. I have never seen a switch fail with the contacts closed.

I think I will cancel the Fromeco regulator then and go with the Duralite fail safe switch system. I'd never thought of 'switch failures' before but know that I am aware lets engineer that possibility out of the deal!

Fromeco makes the same thing. Go to http://www.fromeco.org/ and look up the "Reliaswitch".

I have been running the Duralite Regulators for right at 3 years now, including in my Ion-X machines and with 5014 RX's. I have not had a moments trouble out of them. I personally would not run anything else. Customer service second to none.
