This is what they say is the standard motor for Gaui 550 Hurricane in the UK

Hmmm...Never heard of a 800kv motor. I was reading online and the only ones i seem to find are 850kv and 1150kv. I will look into it. TY

unless thats a mistake on the site that sells them in the UK, I copied and pasted it so its not my typing skills which are not the best.

Not sure if it was a mistake or not. Thanks for the reply

yeah... the 2 stock motors are the 850kv and 1100kv... the easiest way to see which ne you have is to measure the can.. give us height and width in mm and I'm almost positive we can tell you what one you have...

Awesome here they are
Height Approx 45mm
Width Approx 38mm

now we need to get Marco or someone that ahs a stock motor to measure theirs and we'll be able to help ya out... don't quote me, but I "think" that you have the 850kv

definitely a 1100 then.to work out headspeed you will need a stopwatch and alot of composure.when head starts simply count the top of the upstroke as one, upon completion don't forget to hit stopwatch, divide results by 60....and say thank you:YeaBaby:

OR use the gaui headspeed calc...the link is on the bottom of my signature....

download it and fill in the dots.....

Of course the only correct way is with a tach.....blades and everything else can change rpms...

Farley.....what gears are you using?

OK....the following HS are for the 1100kv motor @90%
19OWB/42/61....13t 2119....14t 2282....15t 2445.....using a 20t OWB is 13t 2230...14t 2402....15t 2574

19OWB/50/61....13t 1780....14t 1917....15t 2054.....20t OWB....13t 1874....14t 2018......15t 2162

see... that's why I said don't quote me... now.. if you have a 1100.. and don't want a ton of power... we can help you gear it down... I would suggest that when you can, swap the motor for either a Z20a-980 if you only want to do sport flying.. or a Z30-1110 for 3D... either motor will serve you well and be easier on the batteries than the stock 1100

edited post #12 to include rpms for different gears....

Let us know what your running....but the Gaui Super Pig will eat up amps and lipos....

WOW All the help I could ever want on this site I LOVE IT

Rear Main Gear 61T
One Way Gear 19T
Front Main Gear 50T
Pinion Gear 15T

I have used the headspeed calc off of mystics profile and it says its giving me somewhere around 1940 at 85% and 90% is 2054. I have heard the stock is a pig but I dont have the money right now to invest in the Z20. I am getting into fasy forward flight and working my way into loops and rolls. I would like to get into 3D but not anytime real soon. I am running on 2 3300mah 25c lipos and they serve me well for my style right now. I flipped this bird into idle up yesterday and WOW. Big difference from my 450. I thought my heart was going to come out of my chest. Anyways I will continue to fly when I have time and let you guys know how she(The Hurri) is doing. Thanks.....Shaun

Shaun, for the type of flying your doing now, you can save your batteries quite a bit by not running more than +9/-9 pitch and being smooth on collective during ff.
It seems that when the pitch is over that and collective is hit hard, the stock motor heats up and eats the packs alive.. especially if you run the packs out more than 75%.

Hey Steve I appreciate the advice. I dont have a charger that is nice enough to tell me how much I take out of my batteries but I usually land the heli before the esc hits the first stage of battery protection. I will drop my pitch and see how that goes. Thanks again...Shaun

Ok, So i am little confused.

I thought the current "stock" motors were 850Kv\1000 watt and 1300kv \ 1500 watt for the "upgrade" motor.

My Motor looks like this one .. http://www.globalrchobby.com.au/popup_image.php?pID=215. Supposibly a 1300KV - yet it looks the same as the 850KV one in the internet pictures?.

Gaui's Motor Pictures are different again - no skinny gold\silver cans. Black\Silver with labels and writing on them...
1300KV\1500watt - http://www.gaui.com.tw/parts/855503.jpg
850KV\1000watt = http://www.gaui.com.tw/parts/855501.jpg

There isnt any labels or numbers on the motor, yep, the motor height is approx 54mm, approx 41mm wide.

Anyone else got the Gaui 1500watt\1300KV motor and confirm it looks like the one in my first link? (no - I dont know what my HS is exactly and no - no tach)

Well your motor looks exactly like mine except different dimensions. I have never heard of a 1300kv but then again I am new to this heli. I know these guys on here will get you straightened out. Take Care and use the Head Speed Calc...It is a good tool if you dont have a tach

I agree with Marco, just count your revolutions. He did leave out one step though. It is VERY important that the rotor blades are absolutely clean. And the best thing you can use to clean them is get yourself a bucket of rotor wash. This is similar to prop wash or jet wash, but specifically for helicopters. Hope this helps.:clappp

the stock motor used to be 850kv... then they switched to a 1100kv for the stock... looked the same just a bit larger...the upgraded 1500w motor has a fan top...

Shaun,

if you plan on going into 3D... then skip the Z20, just get a Z30-1110 when you can.. until then, the 1100kv Gaui will serve you well..

Druid,

Measure the height of the shiny, chrome (or polished) main body of the motor - my 850kV is 24mm tall - the 1100kV one is taller. My 850kV is like your original photo. From memory the 1100kV also had a longer shaft (like in the picture) - mine is shorter, but it has been cold here recently :(
