Well just got the Aligns -1 new main gear and yes its bigger then the orginal, and yes it binds the maingear and the pinjoing, then a nice DHL guy turned up with the gear from Microheli and its a perfect fit :-)

but thats on my frame.. anyways its about 0,1mm bigger than the original Align gear i got in my kit,

116,1mm orginal
116,8mm upgrade
116,2mm Microhelis also 2mm thicker

didnt whant to mess with dremeling my frame and I guezz this will work :-)

hopfully some will release a tailgear also thats abit bigger...

Yes i myself would love to see a tail gear released on the market that is a better fit.
Wether it be the Autorotation gear or tail gear drive itself, the smaller gear drive would be great, even mine has some unwanted backlash.

I still think it remains to be seen if this gear will strip. Sure looks beefier, but is there enough teeth engagement being that it's no larger in diameter than the stock gear?

Just FYI, listen to my E version spool up you can hear the stock Align gear is out of round, you would NOT hear this with a Nitro version but if you listen to my E version you can hear it plain as day at slow spool up with soft start. This is with more mesh than you will get with a nitro clutch block too as its a Scorpion with adjustment.

Also the New aftermarket gear is 2mm wider in the gear mesh so the width of pinion contact is MUCH better, believe me.

Video is here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ywRXdz9_H0

Just listen to the gear at spool up, dont worry about my flying its a maiden with low throttle settings.

Either Autorotation gear or the gear in the front TT drive gearbox, the mesh isnt perfect there either :-/

TT drive shaft and gear would be the best.

Here is a picture of the new MicroHeli main gear side by side with the standard Align gear.
Width is much better as you can see, should provide much more strength.

I sure hope so. I ordered one last week.......... Only time will tell I guess.

Well, got mine in the mail today. This thing is DEFINITELY more beefy than the stock unit. HOWEVER, it also feels quite a bit heavier in my hand than the stock gear. Just hope that it's not the fact that the teeth are so small that's really causing these gears to strip. Definitely a nice piece though...........

Just FYI it didnt help my cause.

I guess im just Jinxed, i have lost count on how many main gears ive stripped now.

Wheres the Mod 1 gearset when you need it, this .7 crap is starting to get under my skin.

Mind you i was banging it had with 13 pitch, 8 collective, 5.5HP Scorpion, 2100+ HS

I gues ill have to tone it down in pitch and learn collective skills cause it cant cope and im a newbie pilot.

Brad.

Mine stripped also.

This is actually the first main gear that I've stripped. I had approximately 40 flights with the stock gear and plastic clutch block without any problems. My 700 has always had loose gear mesh so I decided to upgrade to the Microheli gear and aluminum clutch block for peace of mind - it didn't help. I actually had about five flights with the upgrades without any problems then I added the new Align pipe in place of the Curtis MP2 and the gear stripped on the first flight. I didn't fly any different (light 3D) so the Align pipe must make more power on my Align 91PH.

I'm afraid to fly the heli now. The stock Align gear is too loose, the Microheli gear stripped, and the upgraded Align gear is way too tight.

I know the new align gear is a bit tight, but surely it will bed in in a relatively short time?

This is EXACTLY what I was concerned about. Yes, it's a more solid gear, yes it offers more contact area, but if your mesh is off and you strip normal gears, there's still a good chance you will strip this one being that the mesh will be the same. I'm thinking the best thing to do is try to tighten up the mesh and hope that somebody down the road comes out with a mod 1 gearset.

I stripped mine yesterday after about 10 tanks. What's the fix here guys as there is still mixed results in this thread?

Personally, I'm going to give the new Align -1 gear a try as I already have it installed. Mesh is definitely tight right now, but I'll see if it beds in any.

I've never had a main gear strip before this one.

I upgraded to the microheils main gear and the aluminum clutch block, well after 3 tanks on this set up .......microheils main gear stripped.:arggg::arggg::arggg::arggg::arggg:

Use the new Align -1 main gear, the gear works very well. I have been running it now for several weeks in both hot and cold weather and it's perfect.

I never had any issues with the original gears either.

My microheli main gear is so high it touches the clutch block with 0.5 mm spacer on the main shaft.

Does anyone else has the same problem ?

nope, only because mine stripped in less than 3minutes first flight!
