Hello Ladies.
I am new to the Freak and to flying Heli's. But I sure am having fun. I had a post in the Electric T-Rex Helicopters - and I couldn't believe all the responses - it is so cool! I've also posted to other subjects and am having a blast at it.
So now I am curious - how many lady pilots are out there? Give us a post and we'll get this Female Forum rockin again!!

And to those who want to be on the ladies contact list, PM me for details. I'll get back to work on coordinating that effort again now that there is some new blood!

Ladies Contact List:

Bio: i.e.- what clubs do you belong to, how long have you been flying…
If you wish to leave any of these fields blank for personal reasons or for protection that is fine. I’m looking for a first name, nickname, email address, and location as the minimum. After the list is composed and emailed back, you can share more information with each other as friendships are created! If one of you meets up with another lady, please have her contact me to be added and I’ll take care of re-distributing any updates. Also, at a later time, if you wish to be removed, please notify me. Hey there Leslie! WOW how long have you been flying - you have a hanger full!! I can't wait until I get the guts to go inverted. My big thing is I want to be able to "tic-toc" I saw this 20something kid do it and was fascinated! For now I will be happy when I conquer side in and nose in hovering. I have done some slow forward flights - but I have a long way to go. I have been flying for a few months.
Hey Whirley Girl - how long you been flying?
Hello Malorie!! and how long have you been flying?

Hi All,
Wow, I just watched Malorie's video. Whew, that where I want to be. I have my work cut out for me
I've been flying rotary wing for about two years. I'm self taught, being in a relatively remote area, there are no clubs etc. So I've been relying on these forums.
I started with Fixed Pitch birds and graduated to CP birds. I rely on my sim (xtr) to figure things out. I would love to get together with other pilots, I would love to just watch the hands on the radio to help figure it all out.
Anyone out there in the Palmdale/Ridgecrest area of Cali? I spend most of my fall out that way on business.
Cheers,
Leslie

I have been flying RC airplanes for about 14 years now. I have my pilots license (since 17) and my husband is an AF pilot. I started flying RC helicopters around 1995 and took a break from them while I was away in college. My husband saw that I still had this deep fascination for them and got me back into them in 2004! Compared to how deep I am involved in them now, I would almost say that I just tinkered a little on them the firs time...only hovered. I'm now into FFF, loops, flips and some other maneuvers I'm just not sure what to call...ha ha ha.
We really have someone out there to look up to! Malorie is awesome. I haven't met her in person (yet) but she is true to this hobby! She has helped me tremendously with building, flying, and whatever else I can imagine.

OH MY GOD! I just watched Malorie's video clips. You are awsome!!!! I can only dream to be that good someday. I think about my hovering practice and know that is where it all starts.
It finally stopped raining today long enough for my hubby and I to go out in the yard to fly my TRex. Well I started and got about half way through the first battery - I was practicing flying forward, backward, and side to side and had just done a practice landing and the tail exploded. The hubby mechanic said I broke the tail holder and tail blades. Ooops! But he assures me he will have me back in the sky tomorrow. :)
Anyway, your an inspiration.

Hey ladies.
You got to love a mechanic that can get you back in the air in less then 24 hours!!!
Its still a bit windy here but at least it isn't raining today - suppose to start back raining again tomorrow - so we have already run out 2 batteries and have them in the charger so we can fly again in an hour!!! Missed an entire week of flying so we have a lot to make up!

Kim, I am here :)
My name is Maddie and I have 2 Trex450X I started originally with planes, did fly a few ducted fans (I got frustrated because I couldn't get off the buddy box to solo and the few times I did, I was sooo nervous I crashed. I live in Central Florida but beach side. :glasses:
I was just recently diagnosed with Graves' Disease (thyroid disorder) and I am waiting patiently (okay so I am very impateintly waiting) to feel better so I can go out and fly. I am scouting around work for a good place to drive to at lunch to maybe get a battery or two in. I can pretty much tailin hover, I can do forward, side and backwards hover flight. I have tried sidehover once and nose in hover. On the sims, I can do full out forward flight, I do a pattern like I am riding a half pipe. Fly for a while, land, take off and fly again.

Hello ladies,
I just want to say thank you for your encouragement to my wife (kjfly). She is even having more fun flying now for some reason. Probably because of knowing she has other heli pilots that she can talk with. In any case...
Thanks Ladies... :D

No Problem TJRIDE! Man, I'm even more encouraged now that there are others "speaking out" here on HeliFreak!!!
You know, if there were enough serious interest from you ladies, I might seriously think about putting on a "Ladies Fun Fly".
BTW, FlyinTiger (the guy who offered to polish helis and watch the kids if I could get 5 ladies to participate in a fun fly) is my HUSBAND. That's why he mentioned a deal like that.
Only problem is if I host it, it will be clear out here on the west coast. I know of a few gals that fly out here who aren't active on HeliFreak. Those of you who are now on the Freak, it looks to me like you are all mostly east coast. At today's gas prices, it would be a huge expense to drive out here just for 6 or 7 of us gals to get together and fly. Though it would be awesome and a lot of FUN! Hmmm...maybe in 3 years when/if we get stationed in NC like we're hoping to. That's probably more doable.

Hey Maddie..........hope you get to feeling better real soon. :happyd (Happy dance sent to cheer you up) Sounds like you and I are about at the same place, you maybe a bit ahead of me. Isn't it fun.........the first time I hovered about 3-4 feet off the ground I was just amazed that I was doing it!!!! It fascinated me.
Jeanette........wish we could come out..........I love California!!!
Hey, are any of you ladies going to IRCHA 2006? The hubby and I are talking about going.......which of course would be our first time. It sounds like it would be fun!!!

It is nice to see people about my 'skill level' and I really like that Helifreaks has dedicated a place for women flyers.

I'm glad to see that guys don't jump on here and say that this is un-needed and un-wanted. I got that reaction over on "another forum" when a bunch of guys voiced their opinions saying, if you start a ladies forum, then you have to start a homesexual forum, a muslim forum, a hispanic forum...etc, etc. To start a ladies forum would be discriminating and besides, only a handful would be using it.
Well, that wasn't my point and that is when Will and the GENTLEMAN stepped up over here and gave us a place to call home. So what if there is only about 6 or 7 of us right now. I wanted to see it as a chance to help other new (women) pilots and pilots-to-be.
I'm glad to see these new faces and I'm very happy that there are more woman showing up!

I think it is great because women can be intimidated by guys. Asking all kinds of quesitons being labled a 'stupid woman' because you are asking questions, need help or anything. I am really glad to see the support here!

I'm glad to see the response we have had here at HeliFreak too. It says something for the kind of pilots it attracks. They are just having fun flying and if a woman is doing the same they think it's cool - actually they wish their wife or girlfriend would get into it too. I have to say it has been a really neat experience being able to share in a hobby together with my husband - we get to spend some real quality time together doing something we both enjoy. :banana
Well I just learned another lesson - don't forget to charge your radio! We went out to fly and in the middle of my first battery the radio starts beeping - oops!! :DOH

I have had that happen too...or you forget to charge your batteries. I have been all set to go out and fly but can't becuase I forgot to charge my battery :) I the vowed to have more than two batteries for my heli so I can have a back up for my backup and get some flying in.

Hi All,
I keep an extra battery for my tx charged and on the bench for the day I mess up and leave the radio on or whatever. It has been handy on several occasions.
I agree with you all, it is nice to have a ladies forum. Though I've never had issues with the boys, they've almost always been gentlemen. Smirk, occasional locker room antics but then I have an androgenous name so how could they know
"it's a good thing" smirk
cheers,
Leslie

I think it is somewhere in the ballpark of $100, but a lithium TX battery from Duralite works wonders! I can fly all weekend - both helis and planes, husband and me, and just not have to worry about a charge. That can bite you in the butt too, and we've forgotten to recharge for the following weekend, but we keep the original battery as a backup for such occasions.
I think we've pretty much moved into the lithium era...no more nimh's or nicads's as primary equipment...only backups. Technology is really leaping in the electric world!

Isn't it amazing to learn that we're all in the same boat basically..........we all make the same kinds of mistakes.........this forum is a great way to learn that we're not any different than other gals and guys learning to fly their helis.
:thumbs-up2:
The mechanic hubby did admit that he had been using the radio a lot while rebuilding and resetting his TRex and didn't have it plugged into his work bench. He had to have some upgrades after he saw how my blinged TRex flew. You gotta let him have them so he'll keep being your mechanic. Of course I know one of these days I have to learn a bit more about the mechanics of my TRex.
Do you gals work on your TRex yourself? I'm a graphic designer, and all the numbers that my hubby puts into the settings on the radio and such just boggles my artistic mind.

Oh and Jeanette - hubby says that the battery you are talking about is a great idea!! He just hadn't wanted to mention it to me yet - you know, another $100. Right now we are looking into buying a couple more lipos so we will have 4 of them - that's another $140. Oh it just keeps racking up.
Ain't it great!
