I was out flying today. It was very windy and I was the only one at the field.

I haven't done a full auto yet... I've done a bunch of practice approches in normal mode... and I hit the hold switch a few times while at alt but took hold off way before I got too close to the ground...

I was in idle up and about 30' alt with my nose in the wind, trying to hold it in a hover in that wind was very interesting to say the least.

Then the engine died (it was too hot). :badair: My first thought was oh sh**... I had no forward speed and I was only 30'... I went to pull the stick all the way down to keep my head speed up and realized how fast it was dropping (in idleup mode)... I actually hit the hold switch and only bounced it about 6" .... whew... I'm really happy I did all those practice approches... and very glad the wind was 20 knots... :glasses2:

Made another flight and went home

I tell everyone to practice their autos in real world conditions, that means with the same pitch curves in hold as you have in idle up 1.

When your engine fails the chances you'll be in a position to hit a switch are pretty slim, you might as well get used to doing them as they are going to be thrown at you, +10* -10*

Good save BTW!
