Hi,
I setup my throttle linkage so that at full bottom stick and with the throttle trim at neutral, the throttle plate is halfway up the taper on the idle stop screw. That is how the motor came from the factory and i assumed it was the approximate setting for idle (i removed the idle screw after setting the linkages).

Full bottom trim completely closes the butterfly.

I started the motor for the very first time and found that it required the throttle trim to be maxed before it would start and maintain idle and it could've used more trim to get a better idle.
I could stop the motor by putting the trim down a few clicks from max.

I checked the position of the throttle plate relative the to the idle screw at max trim and the screw can be wound right in without touching the throttle plate.

Is it normal to need such a large butterfly opening to maintain idle? As the motor breaks in, will it start to idle better at lower trim settings?

As it is now, i will be off-setting my linkage so that neutral trim is approx where i my max trim is right now.

I'm using Shellite (Napha) for fuel and the needles were at 1 1/2 turns each.

I never really looked at where the stop screw would have hit on mine because I just removed it. I set mine up so that with the trim all the way down the throttle plate would be fully closed, and mine idles just past half way up on the trim. I would guess that when you get the idle mixture screw set right that it will idle faster because when I lean my idle screw down the engine speeds up.

I solved my problem.

I found i had installed the teflon gasket from my Z-RC insulator backwards.
