I'll be there for sure and this year I am going to fly. Since I was a new RC pilot last year I enjoyed watching all the flying. The pilot skills amazed me. Everyone was great to talk to and I learned a lot. The Space City guys did a great job putting on the fun fly.
Hope to see every one there again.

Looks like there is two events on the same weekend at different fields not far apart from reading some of the threads.

Yes there are some people that are trying to cause problems (old grudge) .
Check post dates and you'll see there wasn't a plan for a funfly there until they saw ours.
Funny part is if you search thier own post from last year they said how great our event was.

Mike,
I know those people that you say are trying to cause problems.
I would think they are stating what they consider to be facts.
Like the old saying, Where there is smoke there must be fire.

Well David,
I think you are backing up the wrong guys here I would invite you to come out and see for yourself. If you stand beside them your lowering yourself to thier level. Come out and fly be my guest.
This was about 3 or 4 guys fighting at the field 1 day, 3 or 4 years ago... Guess who lost  So this is thier revenge .. To try to damage the whole heli community in the Houston. Its a great event and we don't need to worry about them. If they keep dishing it out they will get some on them, Keep watching...

David I'm looking at thier rules, they are more restrictive then Space City's . And I fly there daily , So if you have a question I will anwser, I also inviteyou to come out..thats any day , I'll give you my # That way you'll see for your self.
Ask about first hand accounts and you'll only get the two guys that had a problem a few years back..
I've been there for 2 years and know of no problems
Edit: OH your a long way from here,, well you want to come check us out we might put up a collection jar to help pay for the trip

David,
I have been the recipient of some great information from you in the past and have been most appreciative of it. In this situation you need to look at the reality not what is posted by a bunch of guys with an agenda...
1) Space City is not heli friendly......ABSOLUTELY NOT true....I have been there for over three years and have never had a problem with one single club member...ever!! We have more than a dozen active heli pilots of varying degrees of skill and welcome more.
2) We don't allow guys to fly 3D or to fly when there are airplanes in flight....again not true...we don't allow anyone to do 3D (heli or fixed wing) when it disrupts the flight path of the other aircraft flying in the limited space available. If you're the only guy up there or you can cordinate with the other flying pilots...have at it. We are trying hard to have a safe and enjoyable environment for ALL our club members and sometimes we have to back off a bit so others can be comfortable as well.
The two events issue is basically as Mike mentioned above. We requested a sanctioned date for the weekend in question back in late January or early Feb (not sure of the exact date) and received our sanction. The persons in question have some old old issues with the club and decided to host their own event on the same weekend (this was done in the last few days). The priciple individual involved here has tried to DEMAND we change our club rules to something he thinks is more suitable otherwise they would continue with their event and boycott ours. Our club rules are similar to the rules at his field and in many cases we are less restrictive.
We don't want a pissing contest here, we just want to host a great fun fly for the folks here in the Houston and East TX area. We have suggested that with several clubs in the area that perhaps we could have one big event each year and rotate it around with the various clubs as a host so EVERYONE can be involved but that apparently didn't sit well either.
I know this doesn't affect you directly, but our position is in keeping with the basic premise of Helifreak....Fun, Learning, Friendship and MUTUAL respect. As Mike said...if you ever find yourself out this way...please be our guest at the field and see for yourself whether there truly is a fire where all the smoke is at.
Respectfully,
Gary O

I'm all about giving the benefit of the doubt but someone who I respect very much had this same thing to say about Space City not being heli friendly and I don't think he is one of the group mentioned above. My first thought was, if it's not a heli friendly site, why have a heli fun fly? Like David said, where there's smoke there has to be something adding to the flame.

John,
You're in luck. The Space City field couldn't be on more opposite ends of Houston but from Austin it's a good 45 minutes closer to you.

speaking of Clear Lake, does anyone fly at JSCRCC? i was a member there when i lived in Clear Lake. I left in '94 and always wondered if 9/11 shut it down, or made it unnecessarily difficult to get on site for members. That was a nice field. I hope it's still getting some use.
