For a gyro you can not go wrong with a Logitec 2100T
http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=138520
I have a smaller version of this one. Works well.
http://www.hobbypartz.com/volcano-series-60a-brushless-esc.html
Servos, That I am not sure. There are a lot of good ones out there. Does it take mini or standard sized servo's. I have not held one in my hand so I do not know.
Damn, I just spend $3,000.00 on material for my kitchen remodel. I may have to figure out how to swing a plastic 500.
I just bought one of the 6 channels for $60.00. Now they are on sale. I will have to get a rain check for 3 or 4 of them.

If there on sale now and you just bought it,you can take your receipt in and they will give you the difference, if you bought it recently.
A rain check for what? If you mean the 5ch ones, on the flyer it says "Just Arrived" and the sale is mon to mon the 15th.

I was sooooo tired last night when I posted. I was trying to type I bought the 6 channel and I will get rain checks for the 5 channels.
I can get rain check with ease for almost anything in the catalog or on line. I work with one of the managers of a Hobby People store :) I tell him I want a rain check and he brings it to work. Nice setup I think.
I just got (2) rain checks for some motors. I have one for the 70 Fs, 52 2s and the 52 Fs. Need more money to fuel my hobby.

I ordered the 500 yesterday, and i''ll let you know when it arrives.

James, how can I say this, hhhmmm, lets see, I HATE YOU!!!!!! You have no ides what you have done to me.
I am laid up today after the work on the kitchen yesterday. I have taken pain killers and muscle relaxers for my back. DAMN!!!!!
So, I am sitting in front of my PC reading, then re-reading that you have ordered your EXI 500. So now, I am shopping for one too. I may not be able to get one, but I am shopping for one.
So far this is the parts I have put together
I will pull the GY 401 and servo from my Raptor. If I do get another gyro it would be the 2100T without servo.

Servos, I am not sure of the cut out size so I am just guessing until James gives me a measurement. Thinking of these. I have a couple of each and all I can say is WOW. I had them in my MX450SX. They were WAY OVER KILL. Strong and centered better then I thought any servo could.

Some of the stuff is no name, but I have had good luck with a lot of it, so I would not even worry about it.
The servos should be strong enough, but they might not fit the openings. Only James will be able to tell :)

P.S. See James, this is what you have done to me. It can not be my fault, I have to blame some one else for my insanity :) :) :)

I work right down 15 from you. I am right at the corner of 15 and 52. I too see and hear our Marines flying around.
We did a tear out on Saturday. All the way down to the studs and joists. The cabinets are in a good enough shape to paint and re-install.
I could use doors though. Does you company sell just doors? I could use a couple of the older Mission style raised panel doors.
I have not checked any other web site to see what they are using in a 500 sized helicopter. I would be all over a 500, 600 sized Cypher. That would mean helicopter.

I think the Hobby City and EXI are the same thing. Just change the box it comes in and you are all set..
I will look at the doors and get the sizes I need. I can go with MDF. I am painting all of it so what they are made from is not important.
Thanks.

Dru, On your list, you have UBEC, why do you use that insted of one on the esc?
And i didnt think about a charger till you said it, mine only goes to 5s packs.
I plan on using 2 of my cypher batts untill i can get some 6s packs and another charger.....

If you look at the ESC, it has noe BEC so you will need a UBEC. That or you can fly with a (4) cell AA pack for the radio gear. I like UBEC on the larger stuff, just in case I screw up and the ESC fries, I do not loos radio.
If I do get one, I will be running (2) 2650 3S packs through a "Y" harness to make it a 6S 2650 pack. That way I can still use my charger until I get a new one.
James, have you looked at teh size of servos they call out for the HK 500?

Hello Everyone..
I have been a lurker on this forum for some time now, and I have some good things to give back now.
I'll post my Cypher build pictures on a couple of minor tweaks to make it nicer.
I have 9 Cyphers now, and I have the same problem with all of them.
I get 2.5 mins flight time with a stock setup and Zippy 2200 / 30C batteries. I don't fly crazy 3D, but I do rip it around the entire time. Still I should be getting 5 minute flight times, right?
I have 10 brand new Zippy 2200's, and 9 Cyphers. So it's not like I have a bad one. They all do it.
Any ideas?
I have the stock 15 tooth pinion, and I am forced to run it about 90% or I'll get next to nothing for flight times.
I'm pulling on average 30 amps during my flights.
I'll post some pics from my data recorder in a bit.
Thanks guys

Here are few things to look at for battery life. Belt to tight, main gear to tight, binding in the main shaft bearings, lots of pitch and low head speed.
I run my tail belt as loose as I can without slipping. I also lube it with silicone. Lube bearings, check main gear mesh.
How much of the battery are you using? Are you putting back in allot? Maybe the charger is not charging it fully?
Forced to run at 90%? My throttle curve in idle up is 100-90-80-90-100.
What blades and what are your pitch curves?
Just before a cell died, I was getting just over 8 minutes on really old batteries.

9 Cyphers!!
Wow!!!
At a 30A current draw that's more than my 50 sized Bell 47 - by nearly 50%....
It sounds like headspeed. You need to aim for around 2200rpm for post 9 minute flight times - I'll try to re-measure mine today to confirm.
Glob's ultimate guide to measuring headspeed:
1) Buy a Turnigy Tacho from HobbyKing. You need THIS ONE (http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5609), with BIG NUMBERS.
2) Use a plastic clamp (like a big clothes peg) to sit it on the ground so you can see the LCD from where you take off from. The ground. Very important this bit, not the heli, the ground.
3) Position between the flybar and blade tip, pointing at the sky
3) Gently take off, looking at the numbers
4) The last number as it lifts off is your headspeed (x10 on the Turnigy)
5) Remember to switch the tacho off after usage, no auto-off on this!
P.S. You have to do this in natural light or the tacho picks up the mains flicker.
P.P.S. Follow these instructions exactly and you'll find it's safe and easy easy easy.
If it's not headspeed then I'm lost - check binding between the pinions and main gears and check for belt tightness - it can be fairly loose. Then check all bearings - tail bearings get the most usage. BTW for a lower headspeed you need a decent tail servo and may need to alter gyro gain.

James, I wonder if the micro servo that comes with the Logitec combo would be big enough for the tail on a 500?

Just checked again today - my Cypher runs on a hover headspeed of 2200rpm, tail works well too, batteries last for ages and it's fine for sport flying and will take some wind too.

Those motors look like re-badged Z-power motors - Z20 perhaps, so check Infinity Hobbies for the real Z-power stuff (the store and the factory are in Taiwan). My own experience of Z-Power is excellent.
