Where is everyone....no posts for a few days now. Dru, i found a place by my work that carries every screw you need, After reading on the exi forum about tail grip screws breaking off in flight i went searching, maybe you have been to this place, its a hardware store on miramar rd & production ave,Called Marshalls. Anyway went there today and got some M2x6 stainless, M3x20 stainless, M3x16 stainless....you can buy just one screw if you need it , for 15 different screws, cost me $2.00!!!!

Now I am going to have to go there and spend more of my hard earned money. Damn you!! :)

Sounds like a place to go. I need a bunch of the smaller metric screws. I was planning on replacing most of the cheaper screws on a couple of my helicopters.

Now I need to find the time.

Hey guys...

Just repaired my Cypher and finally put on some CF blades, the yellow and black ones from HC.. Looks really good.. they are not actually 325 more like 320.. Also grabbed a 3000MAH pack for experimental long flight use..

Was thinking about trying my FPV (video) setup on Cypher but unsure if I should wait and use it on the plane I am doing now for safer flights..

Loads of snow here last two days--anyone ever try flying in the snow? I am sure it would make for some nice video.:D

Im still using the stock wood blades, im going to order some cf ones today i think. The woods flex so much.

I had (2) sets of wood blades. One exploded on a side landing. Yes I landed on the side from a failed roll. Wood pieces went every where. The next set last until I did a figure 9 into the ground. Same result.

After the carbons went on, it responded so much better. They did not bog the head speed like the woodies do.

Rain and wind for me. No way to fly. Still have to get parts for my Diablo. I have my kitchen all torn up so that is taking most of my time.

Dru, i have a question, On the electronics i got, all seem to have operating voltage of 4.8 - 6.0 volts, except the rds8000 receiver.it says 4.8. So my question is on the ubec do i keep it on the 5.0 voltage jumper?

I got the...
RDS8000 Receiver
logitech 2100 Gyro
Exceed Volcano 60amp ESC W/Out bec ( This Thing is Big)
Hobbywing UBEC 5amp/ 7.5 max
and servos all capable of 6.0 volts
3x Turnigy M930
Airtronics 94819 tail servo

Mr. James, I have (4) of the RDS8000 Rx"s running on (5) cell, 6v packs. They have NO issue what so ever. Run them at 6v. Servos work better.

Dru.

P.S. Are you going to start a build thread for the 500? This is not so much as a request, but a simple demand! WE NEED PICTURES!!!!! Did this motivate you to start a new thread on the 500:Pics

Well, i guess i could......
Dru, to make a y harness to run 2- 3S packs, what gauge wire would you use?12awg?

To tell you the truth, I have no idea what gauge the wire I have is. I had a battery with me and went the the shop and matched it up with wire in the pack. It was the same size so I went with it.

12 gauge sounds about right. It was a pain to solider. I had to crank the heat up on my soldering station to get it done. I am also using lead free solder. It works pretty damn good too. I had it on hand for copper pipes and it flows really well and holds like it is welded. I also had to watch the heat going down the wire to the heat shrink. It did shrink on me.

One word of caution. Watch how the "Y" is plugged in. If you plug one battery in, the other side will be hot and can short out on the frame. I started plugging both batteries in on the bench then putting both in as a unit. Ask me how I know about shorting out. :)

I am still grounded. No time to play. I want to be able to have a counter top that is not a piece of drywall. I have a loose base cabinet with a piece of drywall as a stove, sink, and the place I put my veggie steamer. :(

I should get a lot done this weekend. Soon to be back in the air.

I wouldn't go any smaller than 14 ga wire for any power supply type wiring. 12 ga is cool too, but like Dru says it's harder to solder cuz it takes more heat and that in turn causes the wire to get pretty hot and it can effect your shrink tubing before you're ready for it to shrink. All my 3s packs have 14 ga on them.

Well i was going to make a y harness to run 2 3s to make a 6s, i have 14g wire, but the wire on the packs is 12....so i figured it should be at least that.

I say stick with the 12ga wire. It has been all I have used in 20 years of RC electrics. With the current the poly's are pushing these days thelittle extra effort in soldering is well worth it.

Only advice: stick with high quality multistranded silicone wire and tin it well before even starting to assemble. Also, "tin" your iron by gettingsome solder on there before applying the iron to the wires for final assy, this will greatly help with the heat transfer.

Oh, and use a "3rd" hand with alligator clips because it will get hot and those clips increase the chance of success greatly.

Happy soldering :-D

go with the 12 ga. I was saying not to go smaller than 14 ga.

Hi guys.
Yesterday I gave a chance to feel haw fly helicopter my 3 years old sun. He has punched up and down collective – left stick. I was on a rescue mission on right stick and correction on left. He really likes it.
We managed did 4 flight together and brought Cypher home in one piece.;)

Awesome! Just like my dad letting me shift the car from the passenger seat, although I couldn't "drive" the car into the ground ;-)

great way to get the little ones interested, I hope you've started a little ones co-ax copter fund! :-)

Add another to the collective Cypher group. Sounds great. Careful, he may be out flying Dad here real quick :)

Well I have been working hard at loosing weight. I have been on Nutrisystems for 7 1/2 weeks. I have lost 30 pound 11 ounces. That is a lot! I compare it to 6 bags of sugar at the store. I am not carrying around.

I still have not had a chance to touch my helicopters or anything R/C related. I am having with drawls.

I have found a benefit to my lower weight. This is so totally important to use too. I can bend down on one knee to change the battery a lot easier now :banana:clappp:woohoo

I am finding I do feel better. I do miss the stuffed feeling after diner though. It has not been easy, but i do believe it will be worth it.

I got one very short flight in. I figure I would just hover a little to keep the fingers and thumbs going. Well I foun the Cypher does bretter in the cold and wind then I thought. It is blowing around 30 mph out there right now.

Not the best conditions, but I stayed up there only about 2 minutes.

Guys the weather here is FINALLY starting to improve. Supposed to be in the lower 50's rest of the week and the weekend, some rain maybe Sat. At least it's not snow !! Had enough of that ! Been going thru Cypher off and on, so hopefully I'll start getting some stick time again. Want to get to FF this season.

James, how's the 500 coming? My Atom is just about done. Just need to do set-up, get some blades, and solder the Deans plugs to the batts.

Well ive been waiting on parts, the only thing left is the motor, and its on its way. I ordered the 3 Turnigy TGY930 servos on feb 14th, just got em yesterday. I seemed to have ordered from HobbyKing just before Chinese New Year. Took forever. So i can start on it again. Waiting on the bluelipos to come back in stock.
I finally got some C/F blades for my cypher today, hopefully this weekend it wont rain.

Is up and down play in the main gear normal? It seems like it might rub the frame on my new cypher.
