Kevin, the solder I used for weight is the plumbing type, 1/8" dia. I have just shy of 10 full wraps around the boom. I weighed it on a cheap kitchen scale that measures oz/gm. "app" 15 in. was 5gm or 1/4 oz. So if I were to need 1/2 oz, I'd need about 30", about 20 wraps, again just by my cheapy kitchen scale. Total length on my boom is 11/4".
Chris
i have a digital scale.. the solder i got is plumbing grade 40/60 tin/lead, about 8" or so = 1/2oz .. i also learned a neat trick... to make my batteries the same weight i made a tinfoil tray and weighed up the proper amount of solder then put it in the toaster oven @450deg 5min. it melted into a nice flat piece , then i just trimed it a little and taped it to my battery:thumbup: better then taping a bunch of washers ;)

"Made a bad joke I guess. I think we all know you are bias of course for KBDD products and you always seem to FLY in, out of nowhere when we talk about tail blades. No harm done I hope. Group hug."
No problem, I just did not understand.
I am, by the way, still guilty of having my Cypher trapped inside its case. It has not been out for about a year now.
I also have a set of KBDD paddles ready and waiting for it-just need the time...

i feel as though it's "quiet".... TOO quiet...:thinking no action in the heli world??
i'm still waiting for my esc to get here:thumbdown:
took the blade cpp2 out the other day just to fart around and practice my side hover ... ya , so now it's sittin on the shelf with broken blade grips.. not so good at my side hover yet :(
soooooooo..... just had to post SOMETHING.... :banana
Kevin, my cpp2 has been shelf'd because i'm sick of fixing it. Every time I fly that thing it ends up crashing. I have too many other helis that like to stay in the air, unlike that darn cpp2. And you're right, it did seem a bit quiet.

just a personal update on my CYPHER = i picked up new esc today. flew home from the hobby store, spent an hour soldering deans and bullet connectors... set it all up ... AND>>>>>>>>>>> NOTHING!!!:arggg: same damn problem !! so i now have a NEW esc in the heli and a NEW MOTOR on order... i do believe i figured out the problem though... gears were to tight.. my pinion was worn badly and there was wear on the main gear.. it's the ONLY thing i can think of.. :dontknow so it's back to flyin the blade for the week:thumbdown: ~i miss my cypher~:(
motor ordered= Align 430xl http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=AGNM4375
I too have had issues with tight gear mesh. It's easily overlooked. I use a standard thickness piece of paper in between the gears for alignment. If you spin the gears and the paper rips, it's too tight. You don't want to be able to pull the paper from the gears without the gears spinning.
When I first got my Blade 400 a couple years ago I had 2 minute flight times at which time the ESC would go into low voltage mode. I replaced the motor then the ESC. After spending all that money, I found out I merely needed to adjust the gear mesh where the main gear met the tail drive gear.
Live and learn, I guess.

I always keep a cheap motor and esc as a spare for test. They don't have to be high current just something to test a motor without a heavy load or your ecs. Catch them on sale for less then $40. for both Cheap price for test equipment. Doc in PA.

Kevin, I think Stu has the right idea, live and learn.
I've had my share of problems, but nothing that couldn't be easily fixed.
When you first get a new heli, my first and only rule is:
Never trust the person(s) who assembled your heli, any heli it doesn't matter. That's why it's important to look over everything before installing electronics, even if it means tearing it apart to fix the problem. Then, write down any problems you find and give Global a call for help and replacement parts while still under the 90 day warranty. Don't let that warranty go to waste!

Kevin, When you buy a replacement part, that does not fix the problem, you now have a spare :) That is how I built my second Raptor30.
Yes tight gear mesh will over heat the motor, wear out the bearing and cause all sorts of bad things to happen.
If you run them to loose, they will strip in a hurry, to tight and they burn things up.

I went into Hobby People yesterday and found lots of different helicopters, but no Cyphers!
Are they still current? The Cypher is/was(?) one of the great deals in 450 sized helicopters and I am hoping it was here to stay for a while.
I was in my local HP last week and I noticed the same thing. I was told that a couple months ago they were asked to send their stock of Cyphers to the corporate office to fill on-line sales. They indicated that they weren't sure when or if they would be getting any more in their store. I was told they would continue to stock parts for the Cypher. I don't know what to make of it all.

ya well now i'll have a new Align esc and motor with an x~tra esc ... no big deal, my problem is now i have to wait ANOTHER week!
~ so who's gonna write to Global and find out the scoop on the CYPHER?
Global is located a few miles from me. I just spent about 20 minutes looking through their website. I was unable to find helicopters anywhere. I'll try to give them a call on Monday. I'm not sure I'll get a straight answer.

Stu,
Thank you-please do keep us posted.
I wonder if they know that there is a large following for the Cypher on this forum.
I know that they are selling "Mystery" helicopters by the ton. I have one, it is very easy to fly and pleasant, but not in the same category as the Cypher.

Stu,
Here's some links:
Global EF Cypher products (http://ef.globalhobby.com/) and parts (http://globalservices.globalhobby.com/part/partsndx.asp#EF).
Global EF HP-MDL Mystery parts (http://globalservices.globalhobby.com/part/163115.asp). Can't find a product page.
I'm sticking with the Cypher as long as their are parts available. I love this heli!
The cost of those upgrades for the Mystery gives me nightmares. I imagine looking at a wall of shiny Cypher aluminum upgrades and large price tags hanging from them ($$$) :bawl *can't... reach...*
okay, enough doom and gloom. Let's see what EF / Global / HP has for us and hope for the best.

ya i'll stick with my CYPHER too, with the price of MYSTERY parts i could prob by 3 CYPHERS! what class is it anyway? like my BLADE cpp2? again like i said, they may stop makin the heli but they'd have to be FOOLS to stop makin parts, and if it IS gonna be discontinued ( heli+parts ) better take out a loan and stock up !
oh , what does "EF" stand for? i tryed to look it up .. thought it was ECO FLIGHT but couldnt find ANYTHIN about rc heli's....?

Mystery seems to be in the same class as a Blade SR, to me.
It is a Walkera 59D, as far as I can tell.

"i want to find the place that MAKES these helis NOT the place that sells them.....???"
That may be interesting...
The Sabre was a Walkera #4.
The Mystery is a Walkera #59.
I am not sure who made the Shogun (which was also sold by Hobby People under the EF label).
