Ah Chem, yes it is. I spent WAY to much money on it. The ARF helicopter with carrying case was $450.00 and of course I used a GY401 with an Airtronics 94761 digital servo and (3) HS-65mg's at $36.00 a piece.

I am looking for parts for it now. I did an inverted tail stand landing with it. I need a boom, feather shaft, main shaft, fly bar, tail shaft, tail fins. I just need to take them to the lhs and see what trex parts match up. But I need the green stuff first.

Well I just checked the blades, they are about 5mm longer then the tail fin. So if I powered it up, the tail would surely bounce around. The tail blades do fit the Diablo or my MX450. So they won't go to waste.

Kevin, I got the gyro today. Thank you very much. You said you were sending a gyro, you did not say you were also sending an Ino Labs HG-201HB servo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like I will be setting up another helicopter. HHHHMMMM How many is to many? I do not think I would use this in a plane now. I think it needs to be in a helicopter.

I was going to use it in a 3DX foamy plane to help with rudder when I am hovering.

http://www.foamyfactory.com/airplanes.htm

I have built this a couple of times. Goes together real fast, uses the foam boards from Dollar stores with a few pieces of carbon fiber.

I can not thank you enough Kevin. If you need anything, let me know.

Cypher guys rule!!!!!!!

no prob Dru

ya , i didnt feel like disconnecting the servo, i figured they've been together from the start, why break up the lovely couple ;)

.. so i was gonna try that EXI tail on the Cypher but it's still to big , even with the Exi tail boom piece. so now i'm on the hunt for a tail boom that's 14.5 inches long and .4 inches (11.8mm) dia.. basicly an Exi tail boom that's a 1/2 in bigger.
any ideas?? i'm also thinking about ordering another after market 450 head for the Cypher.. i think it may work http://www.xheli.com/exicncmerohe.html (http://www.xheli.com/exicncmerohe.html) i have this set up on my Exi and it flys nice .

I was looking at that for my MX450. I can not find any parts support for it at a decent price. So I was going to change it from red to blue-ish.

You might look at McMaster Carr for some aluminum tubing the size you need. Might have to make it yourself.

On another thread i was reading, I read a guy ordered a Futaba GY401 gyro for $20.00 including shipping. It is suppose to be new in box with all of the stuff straight from Futaba. Not sure I believe it, but here is a link to the site.

Do you think it is real? Best price I have found was about $120.00 for just the gyro?

I find it VERY funny they sell a GY401 for $20.00 and they sell the G401b and other clones for $20.00. I find it hard to believe they can sell a REAL Futaba GY401 for that cost.

Doc, are you trying to order one of the clone GY401 gyro's?

I would bet good money, and I have VERY little of it right now, on it being a clone, knock off, fake gyro.

Dru, do you have a way to test a motor and esc to see if they're any good ? i have the old motor and esc from my Cypher layin around ( i swapped them for Align ) not sure if it was the esc or motor that gave me problems so i switched them both out, if you have a way to check them , i'll ship em out to ya.maybe you could find a use for em?

I figure is is but for the price I would like to check it out. Sometimes the clone is as good as the original. Doc in PA

I have enough motors and ESC's laying around I can figure out if one or both do not work.

I will never turn down parts. I can always find a use fore them.

Funny thing. The ESC on my MX450 went south, sort of, it does not run the motor at first. It goes through the beep cycle, then it only jerks the motor a little. Then the red LED will turn on, on the ESC then it is fine. I bent the fly bar because it turned on, full throttle and no soft start. Helicopter spun around so fast, I could not kill the throttle. When I plug in another motor, she works fine, so not sure how that works?

So, I have a tester to compare each part to.

It is rainy, WINDY!!!! and no fun outside right now. The fog is thick enough I can not see but a 1/4 mile or so. Was hopping to get a flight or two into today.

Kevin, you made it Christmas in March!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got a care package from Kevin. Motors, ESC, connectors, servo, all sorts of goodies.

I will put them to good use and get as much enjoyment as I can out of them.

Thanks Kevin, if you need something, let me know.

ya, no prob , just stuff i had layin round. double check the motors and esc though. i think the motors are good and the esc may be the bad guy but not sure. i know the servo's good, i never used it . I figure you can get more use outta em then i can

Thanks Kevin.

I have thought about what I am going to do with all of it. I have parts and pieces laying around. I should be able to come up with something.

Hey Guys.
I talked to my workmans comp guy the other day, maybe around June I may be getting more $$ for permanent damage to my thumb ( $3000-7000 ) so if this happens i'll be looking into a auto leveling system.. any suggestions ? i was thinking BeastX or Align .. i want a really good one ( $ in no object ;) ) but simplicity is .
what's a good ez system ? any ideas or personal experiences ?
P.S. i want to continue using my GY401

Do you mean auto pilot like the FMA? Doc in Potter PA

kevinbattista
03-31-2011, 05:48 PM
FMA ? not aware of that one . but ya, auto leveling , but NOT the one that takes pictures of the ground to keep you hovering . i want the FBL one that flattens you back out after a slight knife edge.. ya know ?
3 axis gyro ?? i really dont know much about it all:dontknow

Go to fma.com. What you want is the co-pilot ll. Unless there is a newer one out.

kevinbattista

i have a 7 ch Rx and i'm currently using all 7chs , .. cyclics, gyro+gain, esc and bec. cant i still use it with co pilot or do i need more ch ?
also
what's the difference between the co pilot and the beastx ?

all i really want is something to make flying a bit more stable , to compensate for my broken cyclic thumb. it doesnt really need to be a "bail out" just a "training wheel"

Ah Clem

"i want the FBL one that flattens you back out after a slight knife edge.. "

This would not be the BeastX (or the V-Bar, for that matter).

Both of these, when set up properly, give you a neutrally stable helicopter (almost perfectly neutral). You put it in knife edge-it will remain in that attitude until you roll it out. All of the little minor corrections that we have grown used to using are gone. BeastX or V-Bar will give you a very simulator type flying experience.

I am not sure about the Co-Pilot, I have no experience with it. Someone was talking about an FBL unit that did self-leveling, but I cannot remember which one it was. Skookum, perhaps?

kevinbattista

Thanx Clem ,
so you use the beastx ? I still dont know what i want.. the more I read up on them it leads me more to the Beast cuz i dont like the idea of a thermal sensitive system and the Co pilot seems to need alot of xtra stuff that just kinda "floods" the heli.
it's the "little corrections " that start killing my thumb , i dont really need a "bail out" just a more stable heli ... and an ez set up is nice too ;)

* gettin some info on the SK720, anyone wanna add there 2cents ?

Co Pilot 11 only needs one channel to put the unit on or off. Cost about $200 for the best one. Doc in PA.

Maybe you can double up with your GYRO SW or leave it on all the time and use an external SW it you don't want to use it. Doc in PA
