Hi

Just got my IonX after a long backorder :D

The kit and accus were shipped from the US AFTER I heard about BO on the 8000 packs - so I was curious to see if I got the pacs with or without the balancing circuits...

But how do I se this - how to tell the difference ?

I can tell you that if you got the packs with your Ion, they do not have the charging protection circuits. Those packs are only being constructed starting today. If yours came without the packs, and they are backordered, you will be receiving packs that will incude the circuits. All new packs constructed from today forward that are 4000mAh, or higher, will have the circuits.

It will be easy to tell the difference. The ones with the circuits will have a 3rd wire coming out of the packs, for charging. It will be smaller in gauge.

Also, these circuits are NOT cell balancers. These are not needed in Thunder Power packs, which are constructed from cells that are painstakingly matched together. If one cell goes out of balance it will be because the pack has been stressed and the cell out of balanced is damaged. Cell balancers are not going to "repair" damaged cells with reduced capacities. What the new circuit does is to not allow any one group of paralleled cells to be charged to a level higher than 4.35V. Without this protection, higher charging voltages per cell were possible if a charger setting was wrong, or if a cell was shorted internally. In either case, this can lead to explosions and fire. These circuits will prevent this type of problem.
