I think I've out grown the soccer field I've been flying at... sure... it was fine for hovering around... or even very very very light forward flight.. or even for a 450 moving around a bit faster.. but to really let the hurri stretch her legs.,... it was WAY to small.. plus I always had to deal with people wanting to play on the field.. or bad dog owners letting their dogs run off leash... or even worse... little unsupervised kids (4-5 year olds) walking away from mommy towards the heli...
Soooooo the guy I fly with and I started thinking of a better place..then we realized it was right in front of us the whole time... across the road was about 40-50 acres of wide open land... Yesterday we met up and went to talk to the land owner.. he was a young guy... late 20's early 30's.. when we asked if we could fyl there, he had NO problems with it at all... in fact, he was just happy we asked instead of just pulling up and flying...
it was incredible dropping the nose down and making a high speed pass then pulling it back up and banking it over to do a return pass..or a nice WIDE banked circle... my flying buddie strapped his AP rig to his T600 and took some pics.. if I ever get a copy of them I'll show you the field... now to get him to bring his HD video camera out there to do some filming... I might even give a loop a shot now that I have room...
where do you fly?? (JB and Ben... need not reply.. f'ing beach bunnies)

Gotta love it when it all comes together like that. I was lucky also wit a local huge field. I actually got written permission from my local council body - so now, my insurance should cover me as well!! Made my day that did.

Mystic...that sounds great ! You should get a nice picture of the field made and give it to the owner......I'm sure he would like an "areial" shot of his land.
I flyat one of the oldes fields in the country.....started in the 20's or 30's....nashville park dept just built us a new 200 ft paved runway...and a nice pavillion with a roof....two porta pottis and we are ready to rock & roll....
Only sucky thing is we can only fly 0800 - 3pm mon-fri.....we have to share space with soccer fields that are almost never used......and the noise from nitros bothered the neighbors...
We are about to propose "electric only" till dusk...and hopefully we can get it....
I'm off to the field right now.....63deg at 08:30.....finally!!

yep.. giving him a nice shot of the land would be a good thing to do.. that was the maiden flight of the AP rig... and from what I've been told, most of the shots were a bit blurry... the camera must have been tuned by Marco...
as far as 63 at 8:30... how is Nashville WARMER than my area which is MUCH farther south...??
no biggie, it'll be sunny and 70 today...and if my new charger arrives, I'll have to charge up and go fly after work!

yea I never felt quite safe flying at a park for some reason.. *shrugs* I normally fly in my front yard or over the road, but of course the majority of my flying is with a T-rex 250. Although I do have a rice field I can fly over sometimes right next door. ( yea living out in the farm lands ;p) , but it's currently flooded with water and I'd hate to have to go trudging through mud and water to fetch my T 500 or hurricane 550 if I should crash so they are grounded for right now lol.

Have yet to fly heli outside but I fly my planks in fields that I find using google maps. If you switch to "satellite" view its really easy to find places nearby or short driving distance away. Once you find a good spots you can use "street view" to recon for parking, powelines, etc.

good idea wubble i'm gonna have to check that out!! i fly at a soccer field that's right across the street from my house and it's seriously getting smaller and smaller (as it's surrounded on 3 sides with 100ft tall doug firs:( or as i like to call them- big f-ing heliwreckers) it's just enough to do a nice bank turn on one side and then a big stall turn on the other... no big ciruits though which is kinda buggin me... also now that i'm getting into tail first and shaky inverted curcuits i feel that i really need more room for potential bail-outs

I guess I'm the lucky one. I have a little over 27 acres of my own property to fly at, however still learning to fly. I can hover and do slow nose in forward flight, but when the time comes that I can let her loose I have the place.

This is where bugdozer and I fly.
Looks smaller in the pic than it is. Crummy panoramic pics taken with the i-phone.

When I do fly in the cold, the only thing fresh snow is good for is softening the crashes, but digging the heli out is a pain not to mention it plays %#@ on the electronics.

I usually fly here in the practice fields on the left. (Hope the link works) Not quite sure if it will be big enough to fly the Hurri though.

If not I can always fly at my Uncles house about 2 miles away since he has a pretty nice field behind his house.

Most of my flying is done on a football (soccer for you septics) pitch - hence I've been flying my 450 and MT325 a lot recently - I can throw them around a lot more in the limited space. It's only about 4 minutes drive is the big advantage :thumbup::thumbup:

UK 'soccer' pitches double as doggy toilets over there, kids, graffitti, dog turds, litter, drug addicts, burning cricket pavillions and criminally damaged kiddie playgrounds...you name it. I think we should all club together and buy Mike a ticket somewhere to see how nice our flying fields are!! I have resisted the temptation to post some pics of ours as the green eyed monster may rear its ugly head! My wife is, as we speak, booking our annual tickets back to the UK and, well to be honest, I don't wanna go!! We still have a house there and a 'soccer' pitch very nearby.....never used it. Mike, have you ever heard of Imber Court Police Club? It's near East Molesey, check it on google....I am a life time member there if you wanna fly it sometime. Also, contact Nigel Fraser Kerr (helilessons.com or somthing like that) who is a brilliant guy and very very knowledgeable on all things heli. He got me started and is a great teacher (if you need it!)
