Okay, I've been to several shops and many websites and emailed many, many customer support staff and I'm still where I started. I would like to know what my choices are if I want to get a camera with live video out to connect to a down link. Please offer any suggestions as to which reasonably priced small cameras are capable of this function.

Almost any camera you pick SHOULD have video out Here is a short list - 542 of them (http://www.epinions.com/Camcorders--reviews--output_interfaces__mining__composite) ;)

Cameras to AVOID = MPEG, DVD, MicroMV, and any (non digital) VHS ones.

If you can afford it get a 3 CCD one.

So, is it pretty safe to say that most cameras with a composite video out connector will do live video out? What about still cameras?

Most of the Sony's, Nikons have if you are looking for a small digicam, SLR's don't have a video out, this because the CCD chip is behind the mirror. SLR's only show a picture afther the photo has been taken. There is one execption to this and that the Olympus E330 body, this camera has a constant live video out.

Take a look at dpreview.com for more info

Good luck
