I was just wondering about this.
If they could create a mixer that would duplicate the function of a cyclic ring on mode 2 that would be great for us mode 1 pilots.
I'm already thinking about getting a T14MZ, but that would convince me that I NEED one..
Would it be possible?
Cheers,
Rich

Don't see how a cyclic ring would be needed with Mode 1. Or how it would even work. You would need a ring on both sides for Mode 1.
Throttle and aileron on the right stick.
Elevator and rudder on the left stick.
It is the aileron and elevator inputs together that cause the swashplate binding, that the cyclic ring is preventing.

That is why we need an electronic mix to perform the same function as a cyclic ring, IE to limit total swash deflection in the corners.

It certainly would be a first in a radio if Futaba updated the 14MZ to allow this to happen. I can envision a generic ring screen that has different "curves" for this. Would be neat and useful in a lot of other non-heli-related applications where you want to cutoff control output in certain directions. Then again, you can amost already do this via AFR screen with a spline or line curve.

One could do it fairly easily using an AVR chip on the RX end. Basically, you'd just program the chip as a custom mixer. A friend and I did one of these to produce eCCPM for a radio that doesn't provide it.

Not really the first. This was possible in the 9Z although it needed a little creative work with a couple of PMIX's.
I don't remember the exact abbreviation of the mixers name, but I believe it maybe was called "volume"-mix or something. The idea of it was that you could mix a master into a slave (just as a normal mix), but the mix-rate from master to slave was determined from a third channel though a user programmable curve. I may give more exact setup-instructions if anyone needs it.
When set up properly this worked flawlessly as a cyclic limiter on my R50 for a long time.
Have not found a way to achieve the same in the 14MZ though. It's a pity that this type of mix apparently do not excist in the 14MZ (yet?).

So it could be made possible??
Maybe someone should tell Futaba that it would be a nice & very unique feature....
I'm getting myself a 14mz in a couple of months so Futaba HURRY!!!

Ok.
Even though Futaba didn't listen to me and they did not create an electronic Mixer... I emptied out my bankaccount and got myself a T14MZ.
As of now I'm officially broke :arggg: (But happy!!!)

have you emailed spartan-rc (ie. RR member angelos)?
he designed the AP2000i w/ builtin cyclic ring so it shouldn't be hard
to add that feature.
actually, come to think of it, since the AP2000i only knows
channel inputs, it should already do what you want.
