My first radio is a JR 9303 and I find it easy to program and I thought the price was very good for the capabilities it has to offer. If you are planning to join a club see what they are useing as you will get exellent help if they know the Tx.

larger electric == SE ???

however, i concur...the 9303 is a great radio..very friendly to program. i love mine. only thing i'd trade it for (even money) would be a futaba 14mz.

SE= Voyager 30 tail boom cut to size to take a longer belt from an Eco 16, and longer main blades (55 mm. add to each blade) for more lift and stability.

larger electric == SE ???

that was directed at the OPs statement that a 450SE was a larger electric--which i (maybe erroneously) took to mean a t-rex 450SE. the term 'mini' kinda implies it's on the small side to begin with. it's only larger than micros or sub-micros. to me 'larger' would imply larger than a logo 10 or other standard sized electric.

it was just an observation that drew a raised brow. nothing to get too far off topic with ;)

I also have a 9303 and im learning to fly with a raptor 50. I found it very easy program for not knowing anything and if you move up into nitros your ready to go with this radio

Jeep,
I agonized over my first radio also. I went with Futaba because that's what the guys at my local club fly. I've read lots on the forums comparing the JR with Futaba. Sounds like they are both pretty equal. What you need to really think about is the number of channels. I was looking at 6, 7, and 9 channel radios. Finally bought the 9C Super. I knew that I needed at least 7 channels so I could fly with a gyro and governor. I also considered a co-pilot which would have used an additional channel but decided against it. What the local guru at my club finally suggested was RESALE. He said that if I ever decided to get out of the hobby, I would have a much better chance of getting a good return on my money with a 9 channel rather than a 7 channel. Although I don't plan on getting out, he definitely made a good point. Also, you can get some nice package deals on a 9C with servos from several stores on the internet. They beat all my local hobby shops. I'm sure there are good deals on the JR, too, if you decide to go that way. But give serious consideration to spending the extra money on a 9 channel radio.

I just bought a Futaba 7CHP. I paid $140 for just the transmitter. Hard to beat and nice radio. I don't know what all you get when you go for the 14Z or what not, but this one is easy to program and does everything I need (please don't tell me what the 14Z has or I might decide I need it :shock: )

Rick, I got a 14mz and am never looking back!
It's not just the cool features.... It's the 2048 channel assignments so now you can group servos into a priority order.... This solves CCPM servo latency which causes interactions. I hate to say this but Futaba is one of the worst with CCPM servo latency using PCM. The 14mz solves this a bit by grouping channel in priority groups.
When I remapped to the 2048 channel asignments on my Trex and nitro CCPM machines, I could feel the improvement!

FYI and not slamming you radio choice but I had a 9C and you could see the latency at least on a nitro with digital servos... move the collective stick up and down rapidly you could see the paddles "stepping".... When I went to the 9Z W2C this improved but was still there..... The 14 it's gone with the new channel groupings. Early testing of the 14 showed no improvement on 1024 PCM even with the new channel groupings.... That has been improved in the later code...

Oh by the way... The latest code now provides shift so you can control JR FM RX's :) Since all the controls can be mapped to any channel you want, you can set up JR channel assignments :)

Perfect - that explains why I'm not winning the International 3D comps.... well - that and the fact that I fly like a blindfolded monkey :D
